Bering Sea Gold season 18 will be released on Friday, August 16, at 9 pm on Discovery. Chris McCully, Vernon, and Shawn will be back for this season and overcome all the challenges that come their way to get their hands on the gold.
The official synopsis of the season reads:
"The Bering Sea band (of miners) is back together and closer than ever before (literally)! A brutal El Nino has rendered most claims un-minable, forcing the miners to crowd and clash on one claim. Get ready for the hottest ice season yet!"
For months, fans were left in doubt whether the show was returning. On December 23, 2023, one of the key cast members, Emily Reidel, uploaded a video on her YouTube channel hinting that the show won't be returning for season 18.
Emily revealed that the crew hadn't filmed for the upcoming season during the summer and that she might have lost her job. But then Discovery released a teaser for season 18 on July 26, 2024, and fans were relieved.
Bering Sea Gold season 18 trailer
Bering Sea Gold dropped a short teaser for the upcoming season on July 26, 2024, on their social media platform. The teaser starts with the team traveling in their show truck on snow-filled land.
Vernon Adkison tells the viewers that the ice they are standing on has at least a half-billion dollars worth of gold underneath it. Shawn Pomrenke believes the same and has a gut feeling telling him that "there's gold down there," and he feels it in his toes.
With their eyes set on the potential gold claim, the team sets up their machines and stations to claim the prize. Kris Kelly looks pumped up and says that this year, he won't be taking any coffee breaks. There's going to be a bunch of gold people hungry for gold, and Kris seems to be the hungriest of all.
The teaser then shows multiple shots of a diver diving into the ice-cold water to check the pipes and look for gold. The diver, at first, gets lucky and finds a piece of gold but then seems to struggle in the cold water. He is all alone down there and fears a bit, but Vernon gives him a tough talk to get the job done.
While things were going according to plan at the start of the teaser, everything came to fall apart by the end, and it looked like the team would be in big trouble. The teaser ends with one of the pipes from a machine coming off and the diver not being able to swim his way back to the top.
Episode synopsis & what to expect
Bering Sea Gold also released the synopsis and titles for the first five episodes of season 18. These brief episode descriptions give a glimpse of what fans can expect from the upcoming season.
Bering Sea Gold Season 18 episode 1, titled Into Hell Niño, will showcase how El Niño conditions impact the icy waters and disrupt gold miners' plans. The weather will push the miners from their claims, and since the competition is very high, there won't be any time to spare before they fight off to take back their claims.
Fans will see Shawn making the most of an unexpected deal in episode 2, Opportunity Knocks. One of Chris McCully's crew members will make a mistake, forcing Chris to rethink his operation. Episode 3, The Art of Cold War, will see Vernon's crew try their hands on a frozen battlefield and Zeke going back to a mining spot from his past.
Episode 4, Nome Alone, will bring a lot of trouble to the cast members. Chris McCully will be left alone by his crew, and The Kelly's hot streak will be in danger. Episode 5, A Tale of Three Miners, will follow Chris McCully, Shawn, and The Kellys as they face unique challenges of their own.
With Chris McCully, Vernon, and Shawn confirmed to return, Bering Sea Gold season 18 will premiere on Friday, August 16, at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
