CBS aired Big Brother season 26 episode 5 on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 8 pm ET/ PT. The fifth episode, titled Live Eviction, featured the first eviction of the house following the nomination. Angela, the first Head of the House (HOH), nominated Kenney Kelley, Kimo Apaka and Lisa Weintraub.

However, using the Veto power, things turned out a little differently, as Lisa was replaced by Matt Hardeman. After Matt was announced as the replacement nominee, BB AI started the procedure. The nominated housemates were supposed to complete a task: guess the most displayed contestant from 16 screens in front of them. Kimo won the task.

The episode ended with the results of the first eviction. Matt Hardeman went home after he was voted out by eight housemates.

The official synopsis for the fifth episode of BB26 reads:

"Tonight on Big Brother we are going to have a Live Eviction. We currently have Kenney, Kimo, and Matt on the block. One of the three will escape the block and one of the remaining two will be going home."

What happened on Big Brother season 26 episode 5: Recap and more details explored

Big Brother season 26 episode 5 started with the first nomination. However, the criteria was not precisely the same as stated earlier. The results changed slightly after Lisa won Golden Power of Veto and Matt was nominated. Hence, the final nominations were Matt, Kimo, and Kenney.

Since Matt and Kenney grew closer over the week, they didn’t want to compete against each other. They bonded well since they entered the show and respected each other.

The fifth episode showcased the first AI Arena challenge called “Glitch in the System.” According to the challenge, nominated housemates were shown 16 screen displays with different contestents' faces on them. The task was to memorize who was seen the most, and for that, they were given two minutes each.

Surprisingly, all three of them had different answers. Finally, Kimo was the winner, and he was safe. This meant either Matt or Kenney had go home from Big Brother season 26.

The final vote was 8-3. Kimo, Brooklyn, Rubina, Cam, Quinn, T’Kor, Joseph, and Tucker voted out Matt, while Lisa, Leah, and Makensy voted out Kenney. Chelsie and Cedric weren’t allowed to vote for this week’s eviction.

Kenney was overjoyed since he was safe from the eviction, and so was Angela. She and Matt weren't on good terms from the beginning.

When Makensy saw the results, she was heartbroken. She and Matt had already made plans to stay in touch outside the show. During the first week, they also planned that one of them would move to the other’s city. Makensy had tears as Matt left the Big Brother season 26 house. After heading out, he walked towards the host, Julie Chen, for his interview.

Julie and Matt talked about how Matt told Angela that he was not going to get evicted even if she (Angela) nominated him. Matt’s response was that he had grown through this experience. He also shared with the host that his intention was not to threaten Angela in any way and that he misspoke.

New Big Brother season 26 episodes are released on CBS on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.
