In episode 9 of The Voice Season 26, the Battles continued with Round 3, where coaches paired two of their team members to compete against each other. Each duo performed a selected song, showcasing their unique vocal talents. The winner of each battle moved forward to the next round, while the other contestant faced elimination.
Team Bublé's Jamison Puckett and Shye faced off against each other as they sang Love Yourself by Justin Bieber. Bublé felt that both of his team members had "soulful voices". He believed that the two singers could perform R&B as well as soul genre.
Before her face-off with Puckett, Shye commented on their assigned song:
"This song is close to my pop rock-type of genre. There's some slight reggae compliments to it and I've never done anything like that before. But I love a challenge"
After the battle, all four coaches on The Voice Season 26 shared their feedback on both the performances. Coach Snoop Dogg liked the "way that the song brought out the best" of what the two singers did. He was impressed by Shye and Puckett's presentation and refused to make a choice between the two contestants.
"Being able to highlight those big notes and then to stay calm on certain parts and to allow the song to grow. That was dope ... Much success to whoever wins and whoever doesn't win, you still did an amazing job," Snoop added.
Reba McEntire praised both acts, finding it difficult to choose a standout singer. She applauded their talent, noting that their “camaraderie was just excellent” and that their “staging was cute as a button.”
Coach Gwen Stefani was also amazed by the two contestants from The Voice 26. She commented that she wished to keep hearing Shye and Jamison Puckett sing as both of their voices had "that quality".
The coach advised Puckett that he was "a little bit longer with the notes and less syncopated." Turning her attention to Shye, Stefani remarked:
"The problem for me was Shye is 17-years-old and I cannot believe what you just did. It seems like you have zero nerves. The whole time I'm just sitting here going, 'Okay, 1987, No Doubt, I was 17.' I couldn't have done that and it's just so cool to watch."
Stefani added that both singers were "equally gifted" and their face-off was one of the Battles she had seen so far
Bublé ultimately chose Shye to represent his team as the competition progressed. The Voice coach admitted that it was difficult to let Puckett go home. He reflected on the experience, noting that he learned something new every day, and emphasized that the journey on the singing show unfolded in the unexpected ways.
Jamison Puckett was eliminated from the show. Before leaving the stage, he thanked his team leader for teaching him. He added:
"This has been an incredible experience. My life is a total whirlwind right now, with my wife five months pregnant. Regardless of what happened here, I'm winning."
The Voice season 26 episode 10, The Battles Part 4, will premiere on October 29 on NBC.
