Love is Blind: Argentina premiered on November 6, 2024, introducing viewers to the single participants involved in this social experiment. In this series, participants find a partner by establishing emotional intimacy during their time in the pods. Once they get engaged, they meet each other face-to-face and reunite with other participants in Tulum to celebrate their engagement.
One of the couples this season, Maria and Mauricio, were confident about getting engaged and headed to Mexico for a romantic getaway. While there, they met Emily and Santiago. During a discussion about the physical intimacy aspect of their relationship, Mauricio told Santiago that Maria wasn't his usual type and that he wouldn't have imagined being with someone like her before entering the experiment.
Upon hearing this, the Love is Blind: Argentina star advised Mauricio to "work through" him being "superficial." Later, Santiago told the cameras:

Love is Blind: Argentina star Mauricio opens up on his relationship to Emily and Santiago in episode 4
In Love is Blind: Argentina episode 4, Santiago asked Mauricio if he had been physically intimate with Maria. When Mauricio responded with a no, Emily noted that Maria's reaction suggested they had a "passionate night." Earlier in the episode, Maria and Mauricio told the cameras that they were ready to take the step and strengthen the physical intimacy aspect of their relationship.
They both mentioned that they were looking for the right time to see whether they were physically compatible as well as emotionally. During a conversation with Santiago, Mauricio admitted that Maria wasn't his usual type when it comes to dating. Calling himself "superficial," he said:
"Yeah, we've had situations where we've been very close, so she's realized that I function. She's not the type that I'd normally date. I've always been very superficial."
In response, the Love is Blind: Argentina star Santiago advised him to "work through" this mindset, stating:
"That's the thing about looks. No, it's important for you to work through that."
Later in the episode, during his confessional interview, Mauricio told the cameras that he was used to having "high expectations" regarding his partner's appearance. Before entering the experiment, the Love is Blind: Argentina star hadn't imagined himself being with someone like Maria, elaborating:
"I've always had high expectations when it comes to looks. And Maria Emilia is not the kind of woman I imagined when I imagine myself in a relationship with a lifelong partner."
