The Voice season 26 episode 3 introduced viewers to new artists who showcased their talent on the stage. One of the contestants was 14-year-old North Carolina, resident Jaylen Dunham. Despite not having any chair turns initially, Jaylen was able to impress this season's coach Gwen Stefani who was shocked by his unique vocal range and stage presence.
Jaylen shared that he had been singing since he was a kid and when he turned 12, he started posting song covers on the internet. After his performance ended, Gwen couldn't believe that someone this young had a soft and heartfelt voice, she expressed her shock by saying:
“My favorite part about his voice was when he was coming in and singing his really low, soft voice. He had a lot of control. To think that is live, on stage, at 14 years old, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The Voice season 26 episode 3 titled Blind Auditions Part 3 was released exclusively on NBC on October 7, 2024. The episode synopsis reads as the following:
"Coaches Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani all vie to discover and coach the next singing phenomenon on the third night of blind auditions."
Gwen Stefani's reaction to Jaylen Dunham's performance on The Voice stage
On The Voice, Gwen shared that Jaylen need some practice and assistance along the way. She wanted to be there to guide him during this musical journey and help him polish his singing skills. Gwen hugged Jaylen and mentioned that his performance was moving and grabbed the audience's attention.
Hinting at what the future holds for him, Gwen had positive things to say. The Voice coach continued stating that in five to ten years, Jaylen had the potential to become a well-renowned singer. She also talked about him being confident in himself.
“Your singing in that low range of your voice; I’m blown away. I think as the song went on you were getting more and more worried that we weren’t going to press, and I could hear it. I can’t imagine how formidable you are going to be in three years, five years, 10 years," she said.
The Voice coach explained she was unsure at first as to whether to use the coach replay button or not.
“We have this new thing on The Voice. Basically, if you’re like ‘Dang, I should have pressed my button, but I didn’t press my button,’ you can press your button. I had to use my Coach Replay for Jaylen. In that moment I was thinking, ‘Should I use it?’ and then I was like, ‘Yes, you have that feeling right now; you have that regretful feeling. That’s what it’s for," she said.
Fans can follow Jaylen's official Instagram account and stay updated with what he is up to. The upcoming episodes will continue with the blind auditions as judges form their own teams. Stream The Voice every week on Mondays exclusively on NBC.
