Pat Sajak is returning to host season 5 of ABC's Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, despite just retiring from the original show after 41 years. The popular prime-time series, where celebrities compete for charity, has been a hit since its 2021 debut.
In June 2023, the host announced his short-lived retirement from the iconic game show without giving many details about the reason.
In his farewell episode, Sajak expressed,
“It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, year after year, decade after decade. And I’ve always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun."
The new season begins on October 7, 2024, airing on Mondays when ABC doesn't have Monday Night Football.
Pat Sajak's final spin as host of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune
A television legend and three-time winner of the Daytime Emmy Award, Pat Sajak ended his long career as host of the original Wheel of Fortune with the show's last episode in June 2024. In his career of 41 years in the show, he hosted around 8000 episodes.
He said he would be retiring in June 2023 and that he wanted to leave on his own terms so as not to overstay his welcome. Yet, his love for the show and its viewers has drew him back for one more season of the celebrity version.
"I’d rather leave a couple years too early than a couple years too late, I’m looking forward to whatever’s ahead," he said in an interview with his daughter.
Even though his return is short, Sajak's presence gives the show a nostalgic feel because he has hosted the prime-time version of the show before. The network has promoted it as his "final spin hosting Celebrity Wheel of Fortune."
