Dancing with the Stars season 33 episode 5 titled Dedication Night aired on October 15. Every competitor gave a dance performance in honor of a significant person or event in their lives.
The night was emotional, as judge Derek Hough's wife and dancer, Hayley Erbert Hough, returned to the Dancing with the Stars ballroom for the first time after undergoing emergency craniectomy in December 2023. This week, ABC show welcomed back three-time Mirrorball champion Mark Ballas as a guest judge. His feedback added an extra level of insight for the contestants.
Brooks Nader and her partner Gleb Savchenko were eliminated in the fifth week of the competition. Despite the heartfelt performances and improved scores, Nader and Savchenko received the lowest combination of judges’ scores and viewer votes, resulting in their departure.
Dancing with the Stars: Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko performed salsa in episode 5 titled Dedication Night
Many fans were surprised when Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko were eliminated. The pair received a score of 32 out of 40 after performing a salsa to Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William.
Even while the judges praised their enthusiastic performance, it wasn't enough to keep them in the competition. In response to a question about her experience on Dancing with the Stars, Nader thanked everyone and said she had fun on the show. Recognizing the American model's talent and commitment, her dancer partner and choreographer Savchenko said:
"I had such a blast working with you."
In the previous week on Dancing with the Stars', Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart, along with Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater were eliminated during Soul Train and Hair Metal themed nights.
Highlights from Dedication Night performances
During the Dedication Night, the remaining competitors dedicated their performances to a person who had been a big influence on their lives. The dance forms they picked ranged from Viennese Waltz to Contemporary.
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong received a score of 32 for their contemporary dance performance to Lee Ann Womack's I Hope You Dance. The judges noted that certain sections of her act, especially lifts, were out of sync, but they appreciated her by describing her dance as "ethereal". They urged her to relate to the dance on a deeper emotional level.
Next on stage cwere Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold, who did an Argentine Tango to Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, earning 33 points. The judges commended his focus and intensity but noted that his frame could use improvement.
Then, Danny Amendola and Witney Carson gave one of the best performances of the evening, earning 36 points for their contemporary dance to X Ambassadors' Unsteady. The judges acknowledged his dedication to the art form and deemed it his best performance so far.
After this, Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach took to stage and performed a Rumba to Shoot For The Stars, a song Howard recorded himself. Despite his emotional dedication, they earned 29 points. The judges noticed his refinement but suggested he needed more hip action.
Meanwhile, Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy scored 32 points after doing a rumba to Céline Dion's Because You Loved Me. Mark Ballas described the act as both lovely and elegant, and the judges commended her for being a great communicator on the dance floor.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson performed a Viennese Waltz to Lose Control by Teddy Swims, earning 36 points. The judges described him as “the king of the ballroom,” with Bruno Tonioli especially praising his effortless performance.
Later on Dancing with the Stars, Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten delivered a Rumba to My Way by Yseult and scored 32 points. The judges noted her improvement and called the act graceful and soft, marking it as a redemption from the previous week’s mishap.
Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber performed a Foxtrot to The Archer by Taylor Swift, scoring 32 points. The judges complimented her technique but suggested she needed to work on closing her feet during turns and maintaining her frame.
