Dancing with the Stars season 33 delivered an intense Halloween-themed episode on Tuesday, October 31. The show challenged contestants to confront their greatest fears, and for the first time this season, multiple 10s were awarded.
Seven pairs returned to the ballroom to impress the judges in Dancing with the Stars, facing both their phobias and the terrifying possibility of elimination. Further, a spooky dance-off round of bonus points for select duos created unexpected outcomes on the leaderboard.
For contestant Jenn Tran and partner Sasha Farber, Dancing with the Stars' Halloween fright turned real, as they became the latest pair to be eliminated, leaving just six duos to vie for the season 33 mirrorball trophy.

Chandler and Brandon: Top of the leaderboard
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong once again held the top spot, with a haunting Viennese waltz set to Secret by Denmark + Winter. They earned a total score of 32, including immunity bonus points.
“The quality of movement was exquisite,” judge Bruno Tonioli praised the duo. Their performances have secured them immunity from the elimination dance-off, making them the frontrunners as they advance to the next round.
Joey and Jenna
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson’s Argentine tango to Ramalama (Bang Bang) earned them high praise and a total score of 32, boosted by three bonus points from winning the jive dance-off against Danny Amendola and Witney Carson in Dancing with the Stars.
Judge Bruno described Joey’s dance as “hypnotizing,” while Derek Hough noted a “bit of shakiness” in the lifts. Despite minor critiques, Joey’s commitment to character kept him among the season’s best.
Dwight and Daniella
Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach performed a contemporary piece inspired by Halloween horror, set to Ring Around the Rosie. Carrie Ann Inaba awarded them the season’s first 10, resulting in a total score of 31, including bonus points from the cha-cha dance-off win against Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten.
“Intensity and precision,” was how the judges described Dwight’s portrayal of a terrifying character, proving his ability to embody a chilling persona.
Jenn and Sasha: Eliminated
Despite achieving their highest score of the season yet, Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber’s time on Dancing with the Stars came to an end after scoring a total of 31 for their contemporary routine to Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo.
Winning their salsa dance-off against Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold wasn’t enough to save them from elimination. Jenn shared heartfelt words for her partner Sasha, saying,
“I can’t even imagine my life without Sasha, and we just met seven weeks ago.”
Danny and Witney
Danny Amendola and Witney Carson tackled an Argentine tango, set to Poison by RAVN, scoring 28 out of 30. The judges pointed out some stiffness, with Derek Hough critiquing Danny's tendency to “stiffen up” during crucial moments.
Despite the critiques, the contestant has become a fan favorite, as he narrowly missed the top of the leaderboard.
Stephen and Rylee
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold delivered an intense contemporary routine to I Ran (So Far Away) by Hidden Citizens, which earned them a score of 28. Rylee’s choreography highlighted Stephen’s athleticism, with well-executed tricks that aligned with the dark theme.
Although they lost the salsa dance-off against Jenn and Sasha, the judges were impressed by Stephen’s increasing mastery over both technique and emotion.
Ilona and Alan
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten performed a tango to Miley Cyrus’ Psycho Killer, scoring 24 out of 30. While Ilona's confidence is growing, she’s “running out of time to perfect her technique,” as noted by the judges. Ilona did not win any bonus points in the cha-cha dance-off against Dwight.
As Dancing with the Stars season 33 heads into its final stretch, the remaining six pairs will have a week off due to Election Night. They’ll return on November 12 for the 500th episode of the show, a milestone marked by the much anticipated Instant Dance Round - one of the most challenging tests of adaptability and skill on the show.
