90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5, episode 21, titled Tell All Part 1, premiered on November 18 on TLC. The episode invited all the couples to update on their current situation in their relationship while offering a hint at their future together.
While five of the couple returned to the show, fans noticed that Statler and Dempsey were absent in the Tell All episode. The next day (November 19), Statler Riley released her first YouTube video, titled Why I Wasn't at the Tell-All. In the video, Statler discussed her relationship with Dempsey on the TLC series and how the show's editing misrepresented her character.
Although Statler admitted to noticing red flags in her relationship with Dempsey early on, she revealed that even more issues became apparent once they began filming for 90 Day Fiancé.
She claimed her partner was happy to have her play the villain and didn't care if she looked bad on TV. Moreover, Statler expressed that Dempsey made her feel bad about herself, and things like these led to their eventual breakup.
"Some of the things that she said to me were just not cool the way she talked to me made me feel sh*t about myself. She would call me dumb, and say that I was slow. She didn't really care about my Anxiety and had no freaking empathy for it," she said.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Statler Riley shared how she met Dempsey and when she started seeing "red flags"
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Statler Riley explained in her first YouTube video that she opened the channel so she and TV personalities like her, who were misinterpreted, could get a platform to express their side of the situation.
Her first video, titled Why I Wasn't at the Tell-All, aimed to share her perspective on the drama with her former partner Dempsey, as portrayed on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
"On the show, I was seen as this anxious, clingy, s*xaholic spaz and she was seen as this carefree, free spirit, happy-go-lucky person. And while there were elements of truth to that, they weren't 100% accurate," she said.
Statler outlined the "red flags" she had noticed in Dempsey, which she believed contributed to their current situation.
She revealed that when she first saw her ex on Hinge, she rejected her profile, seeing how the "party girl" vibe was portrayed on her profile. Statler explained that it didn’t align with her preferences, so she ignored it. However, when Dempsey later swiped yes on her profile, Statler decided to give her another chance.
The 90 Day Fiancé couple matched and entered into a long-distance relationship. Statler further noted that one month after their relationship, when they were preparing to appear on the TLC show, Dempsey was living in Thailand.
There were some days, Statler recalled, when producers wanted to get in touch with Dempsey. However, her partner seemed uninterested and used to ignore her, blaming her poor connection and their time difference.
The Texas native felt that her partner was making excuses as she found that she was uploading regular stories on her Instagram. When she checked out the profiles of the people Dempsey tagged, Statler claimed she saw pictures of her with a man in a "romantic setting," and it freaked her out a bit.
"That was one of the times where she just kind of went MIA. So I was like 'Okay that's strange'. There were just things like that that kept happening with these people that she was hanging out with. My intuition was screaming 'Something weird is happening here'... I kind of just held on to that intuition and that feeling," she continued.
The 90 Day Fiancé star added that Dempsey showed little respect for her and the producers who were trying to reach out. She claimed that Dempsey completely ignored their attempts to communicate.
Statler claimed that everything the producers were getting about their story solely came from her side.
"The writer kind of designed, our characters for the show. And so because they didn't really have anything to work with her, they were just like, 'OK, she's gonna be a good girl since we don't really know anything about her'. Meanwhile, I was delivering them piles of sh*t that they were just like, 'Yes, yes, let's make her a s*xaholic, crazy nut case," The 90 Day Fiancé star continued.
