Love is Blind: Mexico released its reunion episode on Sunday, August 18, 2024. The cast members gathered to revisit their journey on the show. The four couples that made it to the altar discussed what unfolded after the cameras stopped rolling. While some found love beyond the show, others struggled to sustain the connections they developed in the pods.
Irais and Rene decided against marrying each other on their wedding day. However, they said they wanted to continue seeing each other and hopefully make their relationship work. At the reunion, Love is Blind: Mexico star Rene revealed they could not maintain their long-distance relationship despite trying their best.
"I think distance magnifies everything from the fights...I believe that a small argument from a distance can seem very big," said Rene.
The couple enjoyed each other's company and also made memories together. However, distance played a significant role in separating them. It not only prevented them from being next to each other but also hindered them from having good communication, which resulted in major miscommunication.
Love is Blind: Mexico stars Rene and Irais claimed to have a strong connection as friends
Irais and Rene's journey was not one without hiccups. They separated after getting engaged because Irais was unimpressed by Rene's appearance. She thought he looked like the "party stereotype" and not someone she could trust with her future. His drinking habits as well as his spendthrift nature further bothered her.
However, after they parted ways, Irais regretted her decision and requested Rene to reconnect with her. In Episode 5, they met and decided to continue their journey alongside the other couples on the show. On their wedding day, Rene got cold feet and decided not to marry Irais especially because he did not have his father's blessings.
Irais was disappointed since she looked forward to getting married, but claimed to understand his point of view. Together they agreed not to part ways, but to give their relationship another chance to see how it functioned outside the show.
At the reunion, it was revealed that they ultimately broke up. When the hosts asked what went wrong, Rene explained they could not maintain their long-distance relationship. Irais lived in Mexico City and Cuernavaca, whereas Rene lived in Guadalajara. He added:
"I remember a time when she was feeling sad and I felt that I could not be there for her because she was too far away, so I do think part of that influenced it."
Despite everything they mentioned they valued the relationship they shared and were on cordial terms. Rene added that life outside the pods was much different than what they expected. As they continued, they gradually discovered things about each other that they could not in the experiment.
Love is Blind: Mexico star Irais agreed with Rene and said they tried "after the experiment" to make their relationship last. However, it eventually turned out to be "very complicated."
"I used to visit him in Guadalajara, I would go to see him, but in the end, just the issue of distance is very complicated. We had different ideas of what it was like having a long-distance relationship, and in the end, it didn't work," stated Irais.
Rene confessed they made the mistake of thinking "it would be easy." When he was questioned if his sisters influenced his decision to break up, the Love is Blind: Mexico cast member quickly denied it. Irais mentioned that although their behavior hurt her, she understood their perspective.
"At the same time, though, I did get where it was coming from. I might have, as a sister, wanted to protect my brother too. Not like that, though," said Irais.
Later, the Love is Blind: Mexico cast member apologized to Rene for judging his physical traits. She hoped he forgave her so that they could move on from the incident.
