Divided by Design — Meet the hosts

Divided by Design is a nine-episode docuseries by HGTV, set to premiere on August 20, 2024, at 9 pm ET or 8 pm CT. The series features a real-life married couple, Ray and Eilyn Jimenez, as the hosts. Both are professional interior designers, but they don't work together.

Instead, they are competitors who run their own separate firms. In the show, they come together in this fierce interior design world to duel against each other, vying for the best bids from clients in Miami.

Ray and Eilyn were married in October 2019, and their shared passion for interior design has made them compatible and competitive. Ray Jimenez runs a design firm named Raymond Nicholas Design House, and Eilyn is a creative director and principal of Sire Design.

The official synopsis of the show reads:

"For Ray and Eilyn Jimenez, marriage and business are a perfect match as their respective interior design firms remodel homes for high-end Miami clients."

Meet the hosts Ray and Eilyn Jimenez of Divided by Design

Ray and Eilyn will host the new HGTV docuseries Divided by Design, where the couple will remodel the lavish houses in Miami, each displaying their own design aesthetic and caliber. However, they are not working together, they are competing against each other as they run different design firms in Florida.

Ray and Eilyn got married in 2019 after dating for two years. Ray is a 37-year-old successful interior designer who traces his roots to Puerto Rico and later moved to Florida, while Eilyn, who is 34, has Cuban roots and was raised in Miami. They both shared a common major during their college years, which was architecture. The couple also believes in the strong values of their ancestral roots and family.

In an interview with HGTV, Ray described his family dynamics and how women have played an important part in his life. He said:

"I was raised by a group of strong women including my mom, grandmother and my three aunts."

Ray and Eilyn will bring two distinctive yet creative design styles to the show, Divided by Designs, as the teaser suggested. Ray inclines more toward a modern and maximalist approach, while Eilyn blends old-school charm with minimalist aesthetics that are both timeless and functional, according to a press release. In the teaser, Eilyn said:

"Our aesthetic is different but we both have the tools and the talent to create something spectacular."

The teaser also offered a sneak peek at the house they have been building since 2020. It was supposed to be completed in two years, but it has been four years now. Ray shared more about this during an interview with HGTV:

"We’re going on four years now, We’re finally approaching the last layer of renovation — the furnishings, accessories, and artwork — and want to take our time curating and selecting pieces from different vendors and parts of the world. A lot of our home’s inspiration came from our honeymoon in Africa.”

The couple previously appeared in the 2022 Netflix series Designing Miami, where they renovated a house for high-end clients.

The couple will now next be seen hosting HGTV's Divided by Designs, where they will go head-to-head to crack down on the best deals for their respective firms. The audience will follow their journey of creativity, design, and transformation.
