Love Never Lies: South Africa, the South African adaptation of the international hit Love Never Lies premiered on November 29. The show is set against the picturesque backdrop of Knysna and is hosted by celebrated media personality Minnie Dlamini.
Utilizing a high-tech eye-scanning lie detector, the series delves into their honesty while introducing attractive singles to test their loyalties. With stakes as high as R1 million for the most truthful couple, emotions run high as trust issues come to light.
In episode 4 of Love Never Lies: South Africa, one of the show’s couples, Gontse and Munaka, faced a particularly tense moment. Gontse, reacting to revelations about Munaka’s feelings and actions, expressed:
"It really doesn’t make a difference, eh? Because if you can get lost in the moment as soon as people around you, and you’re like, ah, nah, I don’t love him. The whole bandwagon is saying, ah, nah, say you don’t, say you don’t. So maybe it’s that. I don’t know."
His comment came after multiple clips revealed Munaka’s growing connection with another contestant, raising questions about the foundation of their relationship.
Love Never Lies: South Africa: A test of truth and loyalty
In a pivotal scene from episode 4 of Love Never Lies: South Africa, Minnie Dlamini called Gontse to the front, asking if he was worried about the evening’s events. Gontse admitted that following her recent actions, he was worried that she might not consider.
Minnie then introduced a clip featuring Munaka expressing her feelings for another contestant, Jordan. In her confessional, Munaka shared,
“Me and Jordan's Spark has like, it’s grown. I feel safer, I feel more comfortable. I’m starting to like him. We have something that can grow into more.”
During the clip, Munaka also told Jordan, that she really appreciated him. When asked about the clip, Gontse responded with a mix of self-reflection and resignation. He noted,
“It’s clear, you know, you’ve just wanted something else the whole time. There are certain aspects that I can grow as a person, but there’s certain things that I’ll always be, and I can only grow and change so much to the point that you just want a different person.”
Minnie pushed further and questioned if Gontse’s playful nature was something he could adjust. Gontse acknowledged that sometimes he takes certain things overboard. He stated that he understood her concerns, indicating that "it doesn’t matter" whether he hears them anymore.
The tension escalated in Love Never Lies: South Africa when Minnie revealed Munaka’s answer to whether she found it easier to be vulnerable with Jordan than with Gontse. Munaka’s response was a resounding “Yes,” which the lie detector confirmed as truthful. This revelation prompted Minnie to ask Gontse if he might be emotionally closed off. He admitted,
“I would say yes, I am, but I also felt like in more recent times with Munaka, it’s become more extreme. I’m still open to seeing everything, you know, working on the relationship. So I’m just going to take everything as it comes.”
Adding to the strain, another clip highlighted Munaka’s internal conflict as she debated whether to stay with Gontse or focus on her own well-being. She expressed that resolving the issues she came to address was essential and hinted at prioritizing what felt right for her rather than leaving the show with unresolved feelings.
This was followed by Malay, a contestant, revealing a past date with Gontse and calling him “very selfish.” Munaka agreed, further complicating the situation. Gontse, addressing the clip, said,
“Maybe when I first met Mo, I was still that person. But over time, I’ve grown out of that. I can’t forever, for the rest of my life, be paying for the sins of who I used to be.”
In another revealing question from Love Never Lies: South Africa episode 4, Munaka was asked if she was in love with Gontse. While she initially answered “No,” the lie detector exposed her response as false.
Munaka’s dishonesty also came at a cost, deducting R10,000 from the prize pot. This moment highlighted the delicate balance of emotions and strategies that define Love Never Lies: South Africa.
