Khanya and Nkateko from The Ultimatum: South Africa are not together anymore. After breaking up at the end of the season, in episode 9, Khanya and Nkateko announced their reconciliation in the recent reunion episode which dropped on Friday, May 24.
However, Nkateko, in an Instagram post made on May 26, revealed they had decided to split shortly after filming the reunion episode. He also revealed that an "altercation" between them had become the reason for them to take legal measures to go through with the co-parenting. He also said:
"Watching the series a day before the shooting of the reunion, more than a month ago, made us realize even more that there were deeper issues we needed to address within ourselves".
Nkateko from The Ultimatum: South Africa made the split official
Fans were shocked to hear Nkateko and Khanya's reconciliation news on the reunion episode after the couple bitterly split in episode 9. They are shocked yet again, to find out about their split, which according to Nkateko's Instagram post, happened after they were done shooting the reunion episode a month ago.
Nkateko shared that they discovered Khanya's pregnancy in March 2023, shortly after filming The Ultimatum: South Africa, yet they decided to separate in April 2023.
Nkateko then proposed a promise ring in the hopes of erasing the trauma from the show and fixing things through therapy. But after the reunion episode, they agreed on their separation and decided to prioritize their child.
Talking about why they didn't unite for the sake of their child, Nkateko said:
"Throughout most of the pregnancy, we focused on prioritising therapy to address unresolved issues and ensure we were emotionally prepared for Q's arrival. We were adamant about not reuniting solely for the sake of our child, understanding the importance of healing as individuals".
In the post, Nkateko also said that while he and Khanya had agreed on taking matters with their son, Q, seriously, an "altercation" had made it imperative to go legal. He also said that they were navigating through this difficult time with the help of therapy, introspection, and faith.
On the reunion episode, Nkateko was seen defending Khanya when questions regarding her "outspoken" behavior were asked. He said that the pressure of the show had gotten to her, which was why she was behaving in such a way, and that she didn't usually behave like that.
He held the same ground in his split-announcement post and praised the mother of his child for her parenting skills. He said there was more to her than what was shown on the show, and hoped that fans would see more of her in the future. Giving a reason for his cordial approach to his broken relationship, Nkateko said:
"My Christian upbringing influences my approach, urging us not to condemn Khanya but to support her in her journey towards healing and growth. I commend her for acknowledging her mistakes and apologizing".
Nkateko and Khanya's baby announcement on The Ultimatum: South Africa reunion
In the reunion episode of The Ultimatum: South Africa, Nkateko said that Khanya finding a therapist and wanting to resolve things put his trust back into their relationship. He said it was because of this that he had again considered Khanya for marriage.
When he was asked to give them more tea, Nkateko said,
"He's three months old".
Khanya elaborated and said that when they were working on their relationship, "a baby happened". She also shared that her insistence on marrying Nkateko was because she always wanted a child.
