90 Day: The Last Resort's psychotherapist, James, responds to Natalie's childhood trauma

Natalie's childhood trauma and its impact

In 90 Day: The Last Resort, Natalie reflected on her difficult childhood experiences, particularly the bullying she faced during her school years.

"I was not loved by kids in my school... they would like, for example, they do something after they say 'Natalie did it,'" she explained.

Furthermore, Natalie described how she struggled to form friendships, especially with other girls, due to the bullying. She emphasized that it took her a long time to build healthy friendships with women because of the years of bullying she endured.

After hearing Natalie's story, James explained that the trauma she faced in her childhood was significant. James also underscored the importance of understanding this history to gain insight into her behavior in the present.

"There's a lot of history here for Natalie and that history plays out in a way that affects the way that she kind of interacts with the world," he highlighted in a 90 Day: The Last Resort confessional.

James' insight on Natalie's behavior and emotional responses

James provided further understanding of how Natalie's past has shaped her emotional responses and actions. He explained that the bullying she faced has had a lasting impact on her ability to navigate relationships.

"I saw her past from bullying to family dynamics, that contributed to where she's getting into arguments whether it's with Josh or other women in the group," he remarked in a confessional.

The psychotherapist also described how these early experiences of rejection and exclusion have influenced the way Natalie interacts with others as an adult. He noted that those formative years shaped her trust issues and made it challenging for her to connect with others.

By referencing the concept of attunement, James further clarified that understanding Natalie's emotional history is crucial to comprehending her current behavior.

Natalie's accountability and willingness to change

During the therapy session, Natalie took responsibility for her actions and acknowledged the need for personal growth.

"I'm a human I made a mistake but I'm willing to admit and keep going," she stated.

Recognizing this acknowledgment as a positive step, James emphasized:

"There's more work to be done, but this was a great first step."

He further stressed that although this was a very important moment of self-reflection, Natalie needed more therapeutic work to fully deal with the emotional issues that affected her behavior.

James gave a reflective response, which, according to him, explained how important it would be for him to know what she did. He appreciated the effects her revelation brought on how he saw her. In a 90 Day: The Last Resort confession, he added:

"I have to admit I really saw her in a different light... it really gave a kind of deeper level of understanding as to how Natalie kind of walks through life in some ways."
