Love After Lockup season 5 made it to episode 34 on August 16, and with it, saw new developments in the lives of couples who were distanced because of prison sentences on either one of their names.
It saw Shonta's fiance True, who was in prison for 13 years under robbery charges, calling their engagement off. He said he wanted to keep dating her but not exclusively, and said that he wanted to "go with the flow".
He said he would continue to go for parole with her, and would sleep with her, but didn't want things to get serious so quickly. He said he didn't want to continue with Shonta because she was a "homebody".

Shonta calmly listened to him and said she was okay with his decision. She also said she was "cool" when True asked if she approved of what he'd just said. In a confessional later, Shonta broke down, saying she thought she was played.
In a chat with True later in the episode, Shonta accused him of seeing other women at the gym and accused his sister, who he went to the gym with, of encouraging him to date other women. Her doubts seemed to be justified because fans saw his sister introducing him to one of her friends at the gym.
Shonta's decision to be with True was criticized by fans of Love After Lockup because they didn't understand why she was being with someone she thought "played" her.
"First of Shonta when that man broke off the engagement you needed to break the paroling at your house off too, find someone elseto do it," one fan said.
"Shonta is being too quiet for me!! True would’ve gotten that hat smacked off his head and a dred or two yanked out of his scalp!" another said.
"That was your mistake, Shonta...never put a man before yourself, especially a man in prison whom you've never met...," one comment read.
"Shonta never put a man before you or love him to death," read another.
Some Love After Lockup fans said Shonta should stand up for herself and leave. Others called out True directly for his actions.
"I need Shonta to pack her things and leave while True is at the gym. There isn't this much low self esteem in the world," one user wrote.
"Shonta clearly messed up by putting True before herself!!" wrote another user.
"True finna manipulate the hell out of Shonta, even more then he already has smh," one comment read.
"Shonta, get dressed, go outside and ignore him," another comment read.
True's sister makes him meet another girl on Love After Lockup season 5 episode 34
After he called off his engagement with Shonta because she was a "homebody" and not as outgoing, True still wanted to continue dating her. The day after he announced his decision to Shonta, he said he was going to go to the gym with his sister.
Shonta took to a confessional right then to say that he might actually be seeing other girls there and that his sister was helping him see them.
Her doubts were right because his sister, Angelique, invited her friend Tisha to work out with them and mentioned that her brother was there. Tisha was heard on the phone, saying she was excited to see him.
True revealed in a Love After Lockup confessional that he and Tisha chatted before Shonta became his girlfriend but had never met. So he was excited to see her and "go with the flow".
