What happened in Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars season 2 episode 6?
On Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars season 2 episode 6 Chief Brand Officer Rankin Carrol, Senior Sensory Scientist For Consumer Experience, Sarah Bilson, and Head of Product Development For Global Chocolate Brands, Esther Gamble made a guest appearance on the show.
The Mars Snacking team revealed they were looking for a product that would “appeal to the masses” and make a name for itself with its “pace, pop, and pull" quality. Here's how the cast members were divided into Team Vanderpump and Team Ramsay:
The Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars season 2 teams prepared to present their unique chocolate product in front of the new guests. From Lisa's team, Nicholas and Erica decided to target children through their market and named their chocolate bars Tattle Tale.
However, they soon changed their target audience to parents who would give these chocolate bars to their kids. Since they couldn't market it to children under 13 in many countries, including the UK. Meanwhile, Maria Laura, and Roman prepared the chocolate under Erica's leadership as she knows branding because of her company SQUAREAT.
On the other hand, in Ramsay's team, Liz took over the lead role as she was the CEO of Candy Closet Freeze-Dried Candy. Liz assigned Kyson and Andrew for the branding of the product. When deciding the name of the chocolate, the group took inspiration from the solar system just like Mars chocolate, they chose Joopz after a long discussion.
All teams were provided with a professional kitchen space, a design, and a music studio. An expert chocolatier was also present there to give advice. When it was time for both teams to present their product in the Mars Headquarters, all of Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars cast members were nervous.
Team Ramsay was confident about their artisanal product that was targeted towards candy lovers. However, Rankin didn't understand the incorporation of planets in the name.
He also mentioned that if there were other flavors available there would be more customer demand. Sarah on the other hand missed the “crunch” feeling while eating the chocolate.
Meanwhile, Team Lisa explained that their product wasn't an everyday snack due to its sugar content. When they were asked if the product was only marketed towards the adults, the group couldn't give a good answer. This was an alarming situation, while Sarah liked the flavor, Esther found it to be too sweet.
Eventually, Team Ramsay won as the executives liked the concept, despite the lack of various flavors. Lisa informed her team that the executives didn't find their product commercially viable and Maria Laura was eliminated from the show.
