“Had to have a couple of surgeries:” The Later Daters star Nate opens up about his time in the military

The Later Daters, a new dating Netflix reality TV series executive produced by Michelle Obama, introduced viewers to six baby boomers who have re-entered the dating world. Through the help of dating coach Logan Urgy, cast members go on multiple blind dates to find potential partners.

The synopsis of episode 2 read:

"Pam's colorful past keeps her from looking to the future. Dwayna's jaw drops when Anise unpacks her date. Logan tells Suzanne to toss out her playbook."

In this episode, Nate went on a date with Anise where they both talked about their interests, backgrounds, careers, and hobbies. When Anise shared she liked to engage in outdoor activities and traveling, Nate opened up about why he stopped traveling too much. He shared that he got out of the "military on a disability" and "had to have a couple of surgeries" to recover.

Anise stated it must be a miracle that he could walk. He opened up about his past stating:

"This is one of those hard subjects for me. I actually got out of the military on a disability. When I was enlisted, I, you know, was jumping out of airplanes for a living. But I broke my back and tore up my knee, and had to have a couple of surgeries which caused me to get out early."

During their conversation when Anise asked Nate if he decided to retire, the 56-year-old explained he "got out of the military on a disability."

Nate further opened up about his injury and limitations due to his surgery. He told Anise that most women his age liked to hike and engage in outdoor activities. Implying that this affected his search for a partner:

"And so, it's one of those things where, especially at this age, it's just crazy that I meet so many women who are fifty-plus who want to go hiking and you know, kayaking. You know, my keens and my back don't allow me to do that."

Anise asked Nate whether this meant he decided on his own:

"So you automatically decide on your own, oh 'this can't be a match 'cause they do active things I can't do'? Versus finding out they could go do that with other friends and still be with you."

After their date concluded, Anise told the cameras she was impressed by Nate and liked having a conversation with him. Episode 3 gives an update to the viewers on whether they both stayed in contact and met each other for a second date.
