“Have more patience” — Love After Lockup fans criticize Hope for asking Arthur to marry her

The popular long-reigning WETV show, Love After Lockup, released episode 38 of season 5 on September 13, 2024. It saw Hope and Arthur at a workshop, where they stitched a handbag. While doing so, they chatted about several topics which included Hope's wish to get married to Arthur.

She started by telling him to look for a job more aggressively because she didn't like that he was financially dependent on her. Arthur agreed and said that he didn't like taking money from Hope and was hoping to find a job soon.

Then, Hope mentioned that she wanted Arthur to propose to her, to which he responded that they were already engaged. When she asked when that happened, Arthur said he proposed to her from the prison. Hope replied that she wanted a real proposal, to which her partner said he didn't want marriage till he became independent.

Fans of Love After Lockup took to X to criticize Hope for trying to get Arthur to marry her. They thought it was too soon for her to ask for marriage because it hadn't been very long since he came out of jail; and advised her to take things slowly.

"Hope has to have more patience. Ease up a little bit. Let things naturally happen & fall in place," a fan wrote.

"Hope….girl how is Arthur supposed to support you with no job and a mental breakdown last week?" wrote another one.

"Hope is Selfish cause your family doesn’t even know you’re in a damn relationship but you’re pressing this man about getting engaged just so you can flex on IG," a Tweet read.

"Why would Hope say that to Arthur in the way she did? She has nasty energy. He is nice looking, has a family who wants him around. HE DOESN’T need her," read another one.

Many Love After Lockup fans also pointed out the fact that she hadn't let Arthur meet her family and questioned how was she expecting a marriage out of him then.

"Hope yours joked…you not even ready to tell your family about this man but your pressuring him to marry you?" one fan said.

"Hope wants Arthur to propose but he can’t even meet her sister," another X user commented.

"Arthur makes a good point why should he marry Hope when she hasn't even told her family about him that wouldn't be fair so if that's going to even happen call your family up and let them know about him," a third fan wrote.

The discussion between Arthur and Hope in episode 38 of Love After Lockup season 5

In episode 38 of Love After Lockup season 5, Hope and Arthur went to a stitching workshop. Before that, the duo visited a mosque because Arthur wanted some solace since his prison release and thought God could help him.

At the workshop, Hope brought up the topic about what the lady at the mosque had told her—the man of the house should be able to provide for her. In the same context, she asked him to find a job more aggressively because she didn't want to pay for him. Arthur echoed her sentiments and said that he also felt bad about taking money from her but he wasn't getting lucky on finding a job.

Hope said she didn't want him to keep sleeping during the day and do nothing, to which Arthur clapped back and asked her if she wanted him to report to her. Then, she said maybe he could take up a tailoring job and sew her a wedding dress.

Hope then shared that she wanted him to propose to her. When Arthur said that he already did it from the prison, Hope questioned if that counted. He responded with a yes.

To clarify his thoughts on marriage further, Hope asked him what a proposal meant to him. He said it meant that he wanted to see where their relationship would end up. But when Hope kept insisting, he said he was "pissed" about her not making him meet his family while everyone on his side knew of her.
