Married at First Sight season 18 episode 9 premiered on December 17 on Lifetime. The episode, titled You Into Some Crazy Stuff?, featured a candid conversation between Emem and her two friends, Krissy and Tiffany.
As they were talking about Ikechi's lack of effort, Krissy recalled an incident at their housewarming party where she asked Ikechi if he was "willing to compromise" in his relationship with Emem. Instead of engaging, Ikechi became defensive, asserting that it was not her place to get involved.
"I asked him, ‘Are you willing to compromise?’ And he got defensive, because it was almost like, well, you know, it's not for y'all," Krissy shared.
Krissy admitted that Ikechi was right and she didn't want to be intrusive in their marriage. However, she explained that she was just trying to assess who he was and if he was really showing up for her friend.
"What I am trying to assess is who you are and if you really are showing up for my friend... Period. And I can’t say that I believe that he’s showing up for you right now,” she added.
Married at First Sight star Emem and her friends discuss Ikechi's lack of efforts
Ever since getting married on the show, Emem was finding it difficult to connect with her husband, Ikechi. Seeking advice, she sat down with her two friends Krissy and Tiffany, in Married at First Sight season 18 episode 9 to gain their perspective on the situation.
Krissy recounted a moment when she asked Ikechi what efforts he had made to get to know Emem better. She revealed that he deflected the question, citing a lack of quality time together as a couple.
"But that's part of... The commitment and putting in the work to make your marriage work. At the end of the day, you both get home from work what happens?" Tiffany said.
Emem shared that her Married at First Sight husband usually slept early, around 9 pm. She added that whenever she tried to initiate a conversation with him, he'd make an excuse saying that it was "too late".
She further expressed that she and her husband struggled to connect on a deeper level ever since their marriage.
Krissy asked the Married at First Sight star how she was going to continue to show up in their marriage. Emem admitted that she wasn't sure what she needed to do next, adding:
“I don’t know how to show up because I don’t wanna be considered aggressive.”
Krissy admitted that she had no idea how her friend could move forward in building a strong foundation for a marriage when she couldn't be her authentic self. With a shrug, Emem wrapped up the conversation, confessing her uncertainty about the future of her marriage.
