The first season of Love Is Blind Mexico aired on Netflix on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The show is hosted by the couple Omar and Lucy Chaparro, where couples come to find love. The only catch is that no participants can see each other physically, compelling them to connect on an emotional level.
One of the show's cast members, Chema, got engaged to Silvia in the first batch of episodes of Love Is Blind Mexico. The two shared many common things, and the spark between them was apparent as they talked about love, friends, and family.
In episode 2 of Love Is Blind Mexico, "Love, and Betrayal?" Chema expressed his delight in the ease with which he was able to communicate with Silvia. When prompted by Silvia about how his father died, Chema revealed that his father was diagnosed with cancer, which took his life, but his father fought until the end against the disease.
"They gave him two months to live, but he lasted two years." He said.
What happened in Love Is Blind Mexico episode 2?: Chema opens up to Silvia about his father's passing
Chema Rivera, the 36-year-old entrepreneur, came to Love Is Blind Mexico looking for a life partner. He connected with Silvia in the first two episodes and explored the relationship further.
Chema revealed to her that he used to call his father "Grandpa Pepe," but that wasn't his real name. Both were surprised that their fathers shared the same name. Chema's father was Jose Francisco, while Silvia's father was Jose Arturo.
After raising a toast to their fathers' names, Silvia initiated a more intimate conversation when she asked Chema about the death of his father. She proceeded to ask Chema for details about his father's demise.
Chema revealed the cancer diagnosis his father got on Love Is Blind Mexico and talked about his fighting spirit throughout the process. He also shared his feelings regarding his father opting to not visit a health professional to recover.
"He knew something was wrong, but my dad was the type to say, 'I don't go to the doctor's because when you do, they always find something wrong.' By the time he did go, it had metastasized," shared Chema.
Silvia consoled Chema as he got emotional and shared that their fathers shared common grounds not only regarding their names but also their struggles with illnesses.
"You're gonna say it's kind of crazy, but they told my dad was terminally ill, like, five times. And he used to say, 'No, it's not my time yet.'" she shared.
She shared her anecdote regarding the situation around her father and how her family struggled during the ordeal. Silvia, the only child of the family, lost her father at a young age. As her father was the sole breadwinner of the family, they had to adjust their living situation without any complaints.
After a brief silence, they both expressed their gratitude to one another, feeling comfortable sharing such details about their close ones. After sharing one last toast to their fathers, Chema expressed in a confessional interview that he felt a deeper connection with Silvia after the conversation, as they both went through the same harrowing experience.
"I felt a strong connection because she's also experienced a big loss. We both know how painful that is and how hard it is not having them around at important moments."
Episodes 1-4 of Love Is Blind Mexico are available to stream on Netflix, while episodes 5-8 will be made available on August 8, 2024.
