Love is Blind season 7 premiered on Netflix on October 2, 2024, introducing a new group of American singles seeking love beyond physical appearance. One of the contestants was Monica, who got engaged to Stephen in the pods. However, during their honeymoon in Mexico, she discovered that he had been texting another girl.
This betrayal hurt Monica and she decided to end their relationship. During an interview with Collider, that was published on October 26, 2024, the Love is Blind cast member shared the reasons behind her end things with Stephen. She told the publication that Stephen wasn't ready for a committed monogamous relationship and marriage, and it was why he was texting the other girl.
"I think it's very clear that ultimately, he was not ready for a committed relationship, at least on my terms of a monogamous relationship, and certainly not ready for marriage", Monica said.
Love Is Blind star Monica recalls the details surrounding her breakup
Monica and Stephen were one of the six Love is Blind couples who got engaged after bonding during their time in the pods. They joined the rest of the engaged couples on their honeymoon trip to Mexico.
However, Monica felt that her fiancé wasn't putting in the level of effort into their relationship that he had promised her in the pods. Things only took a turn for the worse when Monica found Stephen having explicit conversations with another woman via text. This led to the two breaking up and going their own separate ways.
The Love Is Blind star spoke to Collider and said that she didn't regret the conversations she had with her former partner in the pods. She approached her connection with Stephen with an open heart and mind.
"When you're connecting with someone and it feels like everything in the relationship is going so well, and they're very upfront and forthcoming with you about the fact that they once got caught emotionally cheating, sending DMS to another woman, which I don't downplay emotional cheating," Monica added.
Stephen's openness about his past shortcomings helped Monica feel more comfortable and encouraged her to deepen their connection. She also believed that most of the cheaters in the past were not very upfront about previous transgressions.
Monica appreciated the fact that the sales executive had been upfront about his past cheating early in their connection. At the time, she felt there was nothing more she could have known that would have hinted at how things would eventually end. She said that she liked that he brought it up to her "pretty early in getting to know one another. Monica added that he told her that since he felt terrible about the cheating, he had done the work, gone to therapy, and called it a "huge regret in his life."
Monica felt that ultimately, her Love is Blind partner was not ready for a committed relationship and "certainly not ready for marriage." She added that Stephen wanted to be a good guy and do the right.
While she acknowledged that she wasn’t questioning Stephen’s character based on his actions, she felt that the 34-year-old wasn’t ready for a committed, monogamous relationship.
The Love Is Blind cast member also realized how she and her former partner viewed physical intimacy very differently. Stephen's text to the other woman disgusted Monica, who felt that he could have revealed his "kink" early on in their relationship.
Monica had a conversation with Stephen before the Halloween Gatsby party for her "own peace of mind." She added that she "needed closure" to heal and move forward."
"There were still so many unanswered questions after the horrible night when I found what I found in his phone. I was very invested in our relationship and knew I would be best served in my healing process if I got answers to a lot of the questions I still had."
