Hell's Kitchen released episode 5 of their latest season dubbed Head Chefs Only on October 24, 2024, at 8 pm ET on Fox. In season 23, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay tests the mettle of experienced cooks in this reality cooking competition.
Premiered on September 26, 2024, this season takes place at Foxwoods Resort Casino on the East Coast with Ramsay as host and mentor to 18 contestants.
Fifteen chefs remain with only six contestants in the Blue team and eight on their Red counterparts, who are vying for the prize money of $250,000. Amanda, Ann Marie, Brittany, Hannah, Magali, Meghan, and Whit are part of the Red team. Meanwhile, Anthony, Brandon, Egypt, Joe, Lulu, and Kyle represent the Blue team.
In episode 5, Hamburger America owner George Motz joined Gordon to judge the burger challenge and decide who will get the chance to bowl at Foxwoods High Roller Luxury Lanes. Egypt felt the pressure of the competition as he asked Gordon's permission to leave, while Kyle turned around his fortune during dinner service after failing to deliver in the first challenge.
What happened in Hell's Kitchen 23 episode 5?
As the Hell's Kitchen episode started, Egypt got emotional due to being in the elimination zone for two weeks in a row. Previously, his Blue team members asked him to calm down and claimed he was aggressive and controlling.
Anthony and Whit helped calm him down as Egypt exclaimed that he didn't want his kids to suffer as he did in his childhood and that is the reason he took Hell's Kitchen so seriously. Whit later told him that since he was the target of many chefs, he had to make friends.
“You’ve gotta play the game. You’ve gotta make friends. You got a target on your back,” Whit said.
This led to the first challenge of the day in Hell's Kitchen with the Blue and Red teams going head-to-head in a burger challenge. Seven proteins were assigned to both, while one Blue team member had to cook twice due to having one player less than their counterparts. The proteins were dry-aged beef, lamb, pork, chicken, venison, short rib, and bison.
Kyle volunteered to cook twice which led to Gordon Ramsay tossing a bucket full of tickets up in the air that contained different ingredients. The chefs had 35 minutes to assemble their burgers using the ingredients they got. Gordon was joined by Hamburger America owner George Motz, who would judge the burgers by the end of the competition.
The head-to-head competition resulted in the following ways:
- Bison Burger: Brandon (Blue team) defeated Ann Marie (Red team)
- Chicken Burger: Meghan (Red team) defeated Lulu (Blue team)
- Short Rib Burger: Hannah (Red team) defeated Joe (Blue team)
- Venison Burger: Egypt (Blue team) tied with Magali (Red team)
- Pork Burger: Anthony (Blue team) defeated Amanda (Red team)
- Lamb Burger: Whit (Red team) defeated Kyle (Blue team)
- Dry Aged Beef Burger: Kyle (Blue team) tied Brittany (Red team)
Since the tied competitors earned a point each in Hell's Kitchen, and nobody got a point for the dry-aged beef burger, the Red team won by a score of 4-3. The winners earned a chance to bowl at Foxwoods High Roller Luxury Lanes, while the losers had to stay back, grind over 100 pounds of meat and roll patties for the dinner service later.
Losing the competition again irked Egypt, who asked Gordon whether he could leave the competition. Gordon assured Egypt that he saw something in him that the other contestants didn't see.
During the dinner service in Hell’s Kitchen, Egypt did well at the appetizer station. Moreover, Gordon also complimented Kyle's cooking to the surprise of many. Hell’s Kitchen closed and Gordon congratulated the chefs for putting up a good service. He announced that both teams were winners for the day and nobody would be eliminated.
