Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) has captivated audiences for over 30 years with its combination of celebrity talent, professional dancing expertise, and the thrill of competition.

Each season features a mix of new and returning dancers, and fans eagerly await the lineup of celebrities and professionals. Peta, a familiar figure, will not be in the ballroom for the upcoming season 33 of Dancing with the Stars.

During an Instagram Live session on August 29, the 38-year-old dancer announced that she would not be returning to the show this season. She stated:

“In terms of me [and] Dancing With the Stars, guys, I’m sorry, it’s not this season... It’s just too soon."

Murgatroyd's decision comes on the heels of a significant life event. Less than two months ago, on July 12, she and Maks Chmerkovskiy welcomed their third son, Milan. On July 12, he shared a selfie with his wife cradling their baby boy on Instagram, saying,

"He is officially evicted from his mom and he is sooooo cute!!!!"

Dancing with the Stars Peta Murgatroyd's family life and career

Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy have long been admired not only for their dance skills but also for their close-knit family. The couple tied the knot in July 2017, just six months after welcoming their first son, Shai.

Their family continued to grow, with the arrival of their second son, Rio, in June 2023. More recently, in July 2024, the couple welcomed their third child, a son named Milan.

Recently, Chmerkovskiy shared a heartfelt image of Murgatroyd, 37, holding their newborn son, Milan. The image captures a tender moment as Murgatroyd cradles Milan, who now joins his older brothers, Shai, 7, and Rio, 13 months.

Peta Murgatroyd has been a popular figure on Dancing with the Stars since she initially appeared. Throughout her 15 seasons as a professional dancer, she has made a big impression, winning the prized mirrorball trophy twice.

Her first triumph came in Season 14 with NFL player Donald Driver, and she won again in Season 22 with model and actor Nyle DiMarco.

Murgatroyd's tenure on the show has been defined by outstanding performances and collaborations. However, her final participation on the show in 2022, when she was paired with actor Jason Lewis, ended early, as they were the first couple eliminated in season 31.

Dancing with the Stars season 33 lineup and returning pros
