Dance Moms: A New Era premiered on Hulu on Wednesday, August 7. Gloria "Glo" Hampton was chosen to be the dancers' coach in the show. Abby Lee Miller was the instructor on Dance Moms but was dropped from the cast list. Glo replaced Abby in the spin-off of the popular competition series.

In an interview with Us Weekly, published on August 7, 2024, Glo revealed Abby seemed unhappy with her casting in the new show. Although they had their challenges in the past, she believed they were good friends. Therefore, despite the tension, she hoped they could soon make amends.

"This was a new show, it wasn't going to be her, so why wouldn't she [Abby] be happy for her friend? I'm not really sure. But hopefully, we'll get past that at some point," said Glo.

Glo previously appeared on Dance Moms with her daughter, Kaeli Ware. She did everything in her power to ensure Kaeli advanced in the competition. As a result, she often clashed with Abby and got into frequent arguments. Even then, the Dance Moms: A New Era coach confirmed they shared a cordial relationship, which was more than just their love for dance.

Dance Moms: A New Era star Glo Hampton said she respected Abby as a dance professional

While speaking to Us Weekly, Glo revealed that she shared a long history with Abby Lee Miller. She recalled their first encounter and how their relationship unfolded after that.

"Abby and I met on the original show, and my daughter and I went on as one of the replacements for her team, and we became actually fast friends," said Glo.

She first appeared on the show in season 3. Glo often argued with co-star Ally Serigne. As a result, she was asked to leave the season. However, towards the end, Glo returned with her dance company, Studio Bleu, to compete against the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC).

The rivalry between the two coaches continued in season 4 of Dance Moms when Glo's students won a dance competition after going head-to-head against Abby Miller's dance company. Despite everything, Glo stated that she considered Abby one of her closest friends.

"I respect her as a dance professional. She knows her stuff," said Glo.

She added that both taught "very similar styles" that were "very technically based" to indicate that they were not just good friends but also shared similarities professionally. Both preferred emphasizing terminology.

Glo stated that Abby congratulated her when she was cast on Dance Moms: A New Era.

"I was thrilled because God knows I needed some advice and some guidance," admitted Glo.

She sought the former dance instructor's expertise, hoping it could help her monitor the students better. However, the Dance Moms: A New Era coach revealed she sensed a change in Abby's tone when she reached out to her again.

Glo felt apprehensive about their relationship. She noticed Abby's disappointment in not being considered for the spin-off. Since Glo got a "very different reply" when she called her again, she admitted "it was upsetting" since friendship was above all else to her.

She wished she could reconcile with her soon. The original series featured Abby Lee Dance Company's junior elite competition team for seven seasons. Season 8 showcased Abby with a group of new dancers. However, Dance Moms: A New Era replaced the former star with Glo.

Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa chimed in on the latest change and said:

"I think that Dance Moms: A New Era would have a lot more success if Glo was Glo, not if Glo was Abby."

Dance Moms: A New Era is currently streaming on Hulu.
