The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On is a Netflix reality show where couples on the verge of marriage participate in a social experiment to either commit or break up. The show includes a three-week trial marriage with different partners to help couples decide their future. In season 2, which aired in August 2023, Ryann and James, who had been together for seven years, appeared on the show after Ryann issued James an ultimatum, unsure why they hadn't married yet.

Ryann wanted to explore more quality time with James to know him better. Another issue faced by the couple was that James moved out of Carolina for his higher studies and when he was there he cheated on Ryann.
