The Boyfriend: More details

The trailer, released on June 30, gave viewers a glimpse of what to expect from this anticipated dating series. The show features 9 men forming meaningful connections while spending a summer in a beach house.

The show promises drama, love, strong connections, heartbreaks, and moments of jealousy. It joins the ranks of other successful dating shows about singles seeking love. What sets it apart is that these young men will take turns working on a coffee truck while living together.

The house they will be living in is called 'Green Room.' It refers to the surfing term where the waves break hollow and form a tunnel. Due to the green-bluish color reflected from light, it forms the name Green Room.

The series will emphasize friendships and the cast members' self-discovery journeys. If their connections evolve beyond platonic relationships, they will have the chance to explore them. Executive producer Dai Ota shared with Netflix’s Tudum:

“We started out wanting to highlight the young men’s friendships and personalities. Our focus wasn’t just on romance but also on spending time together and experiencing personal growth.”

Elaborating the conversations beyond romantic relationships, led to many unexpected miracles on set, as per chief producer Keisuke Hishida. He further noted with Tudum, that the series also explores “shared friendships, youth, and struggles” among the cast.

The Boyfriend episodes 1 to 3 are currently streaming on Netflix. The next batch of episodes will be released on July 16, 2024.
