JoJo Siwa has recently made her relationship official through Instagram. The singer confirmed that she is now romantically linked to 18-year-old Dakayla Wilson, who emerged as the runner-up of So You Think You Can Dance season 18.
JoJo Siwa shared two videos through her Instagram Story on August 14, 2024, and wrote in one of them:
"Cats outta the bag."
The video shows Wilson seemingly dancing inside a studio, and she eventually takes a pause. Everyone inside the room cheers as she reveals that she has a girlfriend. The duo are spotted hugging each other with smiles on their faces.
A fan page of Siwa, @hannahglitterysiwa, also shared the moment with the caption:
"I'm happy for them and I'm glad that their happy being with each other."
Siwa shared the story through her Instagram page, followed by a picture in which she and Wilson held hands. The duo first met when JoJo Siwa was on the judges panel of So You Think You Can Dance season 18.
Dakayla Wilson completed her graduation from Bloomingdale High School last year and grew up under the guidance of her grandmother, Debra Ann. While speaking to Tampa Bay Parenting in June 2024, Wilson revealed that she learned about her mother's death at the age of 7.
She said in the interview that she took dance as a profession when she was 12 or 13 and recalled her grandmother's response, saying that she was not "thrilled."
"Though I applied to CLI without her knowledge, she saw I had the talent to make it and the willingness to put in the work. My offer to be on SYTYCD solidified her support. So far, it's working out for me. My mind and heart are open to accepting opportunities coming my way," she said.
JoJo Siwa recalls how coming out brought changes in her life
The Dance Moms star will next appear in a documentary titled Child Star, which will be available for streaming on Hulu starting September 17, 2024. Apart from Siwa, the show will feature popular faces such as Demi Lovato and Kenan Thompson.
The show will feature JoJo Siwa speaking up on the changes that came to her life after coming out as queer in 2021, as per The Hollywood Reporter. According to the publication, she said that her collaboration with Nickelodeon was specifically affected.
"I basically got blackballed from the company," she said.
Siwa reportedly said that she was contacted by Nickelodeon's president when she shared a video of her coming out. She claimed the latter told her to contact retailers such as Walmart, which sells her merchandise, and convince them that she was fine.
A spokesperson for Nickelodeon responded to Siwa's statement, saying that they don't know anything that happened to the dancer as she claimed.
"We have valued and supported JoJo throughout our incredibly successful partnership, which included a JoJo-themed Pride collection at a major national retailer, among our many collaborations together. We continue to cheer her on and wish her nothing but the best."
JoJo Siwa's latest album, Guilty Pleasure, featuring five singles, came out last month. She also played an important role in the slasher film, #AMFAD All My Friends Are Dead, which was released on August 2, 2024.
