More about Dancing with the Stars' Anna Delvey

Anna Delvey is a 33-year-old celebrity from Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast, Russia. She attended the Catholic grammar school Bischöfliche Liebfrauenschule Eschweiler and moved to London to attend Central Saint Martins art school.

Delvey returned to Germany after dropping out of art school and worked as an intern at a PR company in 2012. Later she moved to Paris, France, and started working as an intern for the fashion magazine Purple.

The Dancing with the Stars cast member attended The New York Fashion Week. According to New York Magazine, she stayed in the city and posted as a wealthy German heiress to gain trust and infiltrate the city's elite socialite circle. She flaunted herself as the owner of a fake private club and art foundation called 'Anna Delvey Foundation.'

Besides the Anna Delvey Foundation, New York Magazine further reported that Delvey used invalid credit cards and fake bank statements to establish herself as a legitimate wealthy individual. From 2013 to 2017, Delvey scammed multiple banks, hotels, and individuals. As per her court prosecution, she stole an estimated total of around $275,000 over the years.

According to Jessica Pressler, the journalist behind Inventing Anna, Delvey was arrested in October 2017 during a sting operation when she was staying at an addiction treatment facility in Los Angeles County.

According to The New York Times, in April 2019, she was charged with eight crimes, including attempted grand larceny. A month later, the State Supreme Court in Manhattan sentenced her to 4 to 12 years of prison time and a fine of over $24,000. Delvey was also asked to pay restitution of $199,000 to the individuals and organizations she had conned.

After her trial, the Russian native served her prison sentence at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for women and was later transferred to Albion Correctional Facility. In February 2021, she was released on the grounds of good behavior, after completing two years of her prison sentence.

Delvey used the money she received from Netflix to pay off the restitution and the fines charged by the State Supreme Court in Manhattan.

As per CNN, she was once again arrested by ICE agents for overstaying her visa. She was released from prison in 2022 and was put on house arrest.

Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars received a lot of backlash for featuring Anna Delvey in its season 33 lineup. The contestant claimed that ICE allowed her to perform on the show despite her house arrest, and the star was seen donning an ankle monitor during her DWTS appearance.

Sosa tried to showcase Delvey's ankle monitor during their dance routine and called it the star of the performance. Their first dance received an average score of 18 out of 30 points.
