Love is Blind season 7, episodes 7 to 9, premiered on October 9 on Netflix. The experiment returned with another batch of American singles and helped them find the love that looked past the visual aspect of the relationship.
Stephen and Monica were one of the couples who got engaged after coming out of the pods. They, however, decided to go their separate ways when Monica found out that Stephen had cheated on her by sliding into another girl's DM. Before they left, Monica asked Stephen to Venmo her his share of living expenses.
Their break-up occurred during the show's filming in October 2023 and was showcased in the episode released on October 9, 2024. Three days after the release of episodes 7-9, on October 12, Stephen hinted via his Instagram stories just how much money he sent Monica through the Venmo app.
The Love Is Blind star set up a poll on his Instagram stories asking: "How much do you think I owed her? How much did I send poll?" Interacting with his poll, his followers guessed various amounts. He reacted to the $450 guess and hinted that the amount was “actually pretty close.”
While he did not reveal the precise amount, he said he “always” intended to pay Monica back.
“I always pay what I owe. Even if it’s the last amount in my bank account while already I’m unemployed."
How did Love Is Blind star Stephen and Monica break up?
Love Is Blind star Stephen and Monica connected in the pods over their shared values of open and honest communication. Stephen shared that he had "emotionally cheated" on his previous girlfriend after sliding into another woman's DMs. Monica commented on his openness and accepted his past.
After getting engaged outside the pods and spending their honeymoon in Mexico, the couple returned back to life in Washington, DC. Monica was disappointed that her Love Is Blind wasn't fulfilling the promises he made her in the pods. Stephen felt he couldn't live up to Monica's expectations.
Weeks before their wedding day, doubts started to sink into Stephen's mind, and he told Monica that he didn't want to "feel forced into doing something." While their relationship was still intact after their lingering doubts, it crumbled into pieces when Monica found out that Stephen had been sending s*xual messages to another woman.
Monica questioned Stephen's motives and whether he wished to marry her. Although the electrician tried to own up to his mistakes and reassured her that it wouldn't happen again, Monica decided to end things with him. Before breaking up, she said:
“At this point I don’t think there’s anything that I could say that you’d believe. I’m almost embarrassed by how much of my heart I’ve given you.”
Stephen and Monica break the silence after their separation
Hours after their breakup episode premiered on Netflix, Stephen and Monica came out to express their feelings about their relationship on the reality show and their thoughts about their former partner.
On the October 10 episode of The Viall Files podcast, Monica shared that she had no "ill will" toward Stephen and still thinks of him as a “good person.”
Stephen posted a picture with Monica on October 9 and expressed in the caption that he was grateful for the experience and the memories he made with his fellow contestants. The Love is Blind star further addressed the hate he was receiving and wrote:
"You know for a show based on context clues and meant to be about not judging a book by its cover. Its fans certainly like to take a LOT things at face value."
Episodes 1-9 of Love is Blind season 7 are available on Netflix.
