The synopsis for episode 5, titled Circle Wedding Crashers, read:
"A secret profile swap leads to a steamy private chat, and a messy game forces the players to reveal who they'd wed, smooch — or take down."
The Circle star Madelyn invites Kevin to a private chat
Madelyn was stuck with Rachel's profile after using episode 4's disruptor mode. She knew that if she wanted to stay in the game, she would have to make amends with the contestants Rachel had made enemies with. She said:
"In order to save Rachel, we need to talk to the person that I think she has the most beef with."
Madelyn had the brief idea that Rachel was at odds with Kevin, and that might pose a problem. So she invited Kevin to a private chat in episode 5 using Rachel's profile. Kevin was shocked to see a private chat invitation from Rachel.
Madelyn started the conversation and told Kevin via Rachel's profile that she misjudged him and apologized for her actions. Kevin believed that the message came from the real Rachel and thought that this was a good thing that she apologized. However, he wasn't satisfied and asked for an explanation of why she was after him in the group chat. He wrote:
"#NewBeginnings sounds great! I gotta ask, why'd you come for me so hard in the Circle Chat though?"
Madelyn had to give an answer that Rachel might give. She sent Kevin a message and explained to him that she was backing up her girl alliance members and had to stand up for them. She then tried to mend things and told him:
"But after my convo with Madelyn yesterday, she spoke really highly of you and I might have not given you a fair chance."
Madelyn thought that this conversation could benefit both her and Rachel, as Kevin being on their good side could help them in the future. Her strategy worked, and Kevin was positive about giving her a second chance.
"That's great! Honestly, I didn't give you a fair chance either. So glad we got to have this chat and start this friendship!" Kevin wrote.
Madelyn and Rachel's profile swap
The Circle season 7 contestants Madelyn and Rachel got the disruptor mode in episode 4, and they had to switch their profiles and play as each other going forward until the next elimination. If one of them gets eliminated, the other person would be stuck with their profile.
The Circle season 7 host Michelle Buteau explained:
"Now that Madelyn is controlling Rachel's profile, she needs to be careful, because if Rachel is blocked, then it's bye-bye for Madelyn."
Madelyn and Rachel knew they would have to play smart and not let other The Circle season 7 contestants doubt any change. They had a private chat together to discuss a plan for their recent profile swap. They decided to work together and maintain a good relationship with their respective alliance.
The Circle season 7 episodes 1–8 are available to stream on Netflix.
