Love & Marriage: Huntsville season 9 episode 8, titled Stirring the Pot Over Drinks, was released on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The episode featured a heated confrontation between Ken and Marques during Tricia's children's graduation party, as they tried to work through their issues.
Tricia's current partner, Ken, asked her estranged husband, Marques, for a one-on-one conversation to discuss and resolve their ongoing struggles for the children's sake. They did not wish to let their personal lives come in the way of the children's happiness. While Ken stressed the importance of Marques' involvement in the kids' lives, Marques complained about Ken trying to step into his shoes.
Ken clarified that he never intended to take over Marques' position. He only wished to assist him in becoming a better father. The Love & Marriage: Huntsville cast member added he never had any "beef" with Marques.
"You have the issue. You have the problem, right or wrong. I don't have a beef with you, I keep telling you that. I don't had no problem with you," Ken said.
Despite Ken's reassurances, Marques felt bothered by his presence in Tricia's life. He told Ken he had nothing to worry about since he had "the girl" and the children. Upon hearing that, Ken realized Marques was not ready to recognize the type of man the kids deserved to have in their lives.
Love & Marriage: Huntsville's Marques says Ken wants to "overcompensate" because he has no "biological children"
In one of the segments of Love & Marriage: Huntsville episode 8, Ken pulled Marques aside and told him that they needed to put their issues in the past to ensure they do not have "awkward" encounters in the future. However, Marques believed there was "no hostility" since Ken had already overtaken everything that once belonged to him.
Ken disagreed, reminding Marques that he wanted to assist him in showing up for the children, not take his position. Upon hearing that, Marques asked Ken why he never spoke to him if those were his intentions.
"Don't you wanna know what's stopping us from getting to know each other? You, bro," Ken replied.
The Love & Marriage: Huntsville star added that they needed to have those difficult conversations to improve the quality of their lives and let everyone around them be happy and peaceful.
Ken expressed that his main purpose was to work hard, provide for Tricia and her children, and look after his own kid. At that point, Marques asked Ken if he could have children.
"And even if you can't, when you come across people that have children, it's almost as if I feel you wanna overcompensate and it's not because it's about me, it's because you don't have your own biological children," he added.
Ken dismissed Marques' assumption and said he had "obligations" and "duties." It was his responsibility to look after the kids irrespective of the situation. However, Marques felt differently. He believed that the new man must have a conversation with the "father of the children" before becoming a part of their lives. Hearing that, Ken retorted, "You gotta be present though."
During a Love & Marriage: Huntsville confessional, Ken expressed that Marques was jealous of his status in Tricia's life. He added that the children deserved a devoted and disciplined father.
"When you're not present, you allow me, the outsider guy, to build a relationship with you not being there and what happens with that is Xaria goes to school and talks about me and not you," Ken said.
Although Marques opposed Ken's beliefs, the latter expressed that it felt like he was overcompensating for Marques' shortcomings. Ultimately, Tricia jumped into their argument, criticizing Marques for being absent for the most part. The argument fizzled out after Tricia revealed she had notarized their divorce papers.
