Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald recently came forward to defend Emma Hernan amidst the latter's feud with Nicole Young.
The popular Netflix reality show premiered on September 6, 204, and followed a group of real estate agents working at the Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles. In season 8 of Selling Sunset, a new issue arose when Nicole Young made remarks suggesting that Emma Hernan was allegedly involved with a married man. This statement stirred tension among the cast.
In an interview with Us Weekly on September 6, one of the cast members Mary made it clear that she doesn't believe the rumors, stating:
“She’s very picky with who she dates. So I can’t imagine it’s true.”

The origin of the rumors
The conflict began during season 8 of Selling Sunset when Nicole Young shared with Mary Fitzgerald and Amanza Smith that she had heard rumors about Emma’s relationship status. Nicole claimed her information came from a "source," but she refrained from giving further details.
In the show, Nicole expressed concerns about the moral implications of the situation, noting that such rumors could harm marriages, families, and Emma’s reputation. She said:
“I wish I didn’t know. It involves Emma and that’s all I wanna say.”
Mary was initially caught off guard when Nicole made the comments during the shoot. Expressing her discomfort with the situation, Mary admitted in an interview with Us Weekly:
“I don’t want any part of this.”
Mary emphasized that she didn’t understand where the rumors came from and felt bad for Emma, calling her a "sweet girl." She added that it was unfortunate that Emma had to be portrayed in this light.

After hearing the allegations, Mary discussed the situation with Emma, who provided her side of the story. The Selling Sunset star shared in the same interview:
“Emma explained it to me, but it was nothing like what Nicole said.”
She further elaborated that the speculation about Emma didn’t align with her understanding of Emma as a person. Mary believed that Emma was very selective about her date, which made the rumors seem unlikely.
Mary also expressed confusion over why Nicole would bring such a topic to light in the first place. Mary told the same publication, adding that none of the cast members expected such a rumor to surface, saying:
“We didn’t know she was gonna do that.”
She noted that this type of gossip would inevitably cause problems within the group, particularly for Emma, who had been emotionally affected by the situation. Referring to Emma’s reaction to the accusations, Mary said:
“She’s been extremely upset.”
Nicole Young's perspective
While Nicole never provided specific details about the alleged affair, her comments on Selling Sunset reflected her discomfort with the situation. In the show, Nicole admitted:
“I wouldn’t do anything. Just like I haven’t done anything, I wouldn’t.”
She explained that as a married woman, such rumors made her uncomfortable, and she was unsure how to handle the information. Nicole expressed that if she were the wife in such a situation, she would be deeply upset. She noted:
“If I were the wife, I’d f—king kill someone.”
Nicole's statements on Selling Sunset suggested that she felt conflicted about sharing the information but believed it was necessary to address it. She also noted that she might face backlash for bringing up the rumor, mentioning:
“You know I’m going to get murdered for this. She would literally burn me at the stake.”
The impact of the rumors on Emma Hernan
Emma Hernan had not publicly addressed the rumors at the time of publishing this article but her interactions with Mary on the show suggested that the allegations took an emotional toll on her. Mary reiterated her belief that the rumors were not true. Highlighting the damage the accusations could cause to Emma’s personal and professional life, Mary told Us Weekly:
“I feel bad. She doesn’t deserve to be called out like that.”
Mary also pointed out that even if something had occurred in Emma’s past, such personal matters should not be broadcast for public consumption. She stated:
“You don’t blast someone out like that.”
Cast reactions and social media fallout
As the rumors spread, other cast members of Selling Sunset took to social media to defend Emma and criticize Nicole for her comments. Days before the new episodes aired, Chrishell Stause and Chelsea Lazkani, who also previously had their conflicts with Nicole, openly supported Emma and condemned Nicole’s actions.
Chrishell made her stance clear through a post on her Instagram Story on August 31.
“Someone needs to take my phone [because] 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. Are we really still giving air time to LIARS that just want air time??”
She further criticized Selling Sunset’s producers for not giving Emma a chance to defend herself, calling the situation “disgusting.”
Chelsea Lazkani also voiced her support for Emma while criticizing Nicole, accusing her of fabricating rumors for attention. Chelsea posted on her Instagram Story, expressing her frustration with Nicole’s actions. Chelsea echoed Chrishell’s belief that Nicole was spreading lies for the sake of views, stating:
“@itsnicoleyoung, you are the most diabolical piece of [trash] I’ve ever met...Spreading lies for views is so damaging.”
