Sister Wives' Robyn Brown's daughters share their perspectives on plural marriage

The influence of religion and spirituality

During a conversation with their mother, Robyn, on Sister Wives, the daughters discussed their desire to reconnect with their spiritual roots. Robyn shared that she had been struggling to maintain the religious practices that had been a significant part of their lives, especially as they moved from place to place. She explained,

“There’s no churches that believe the way that Dad and I, you know, did, you know, or do,”

She further elaborated on the challenges of maintaining their cultural and spiritual identity, especially after relocating to different cities. Aurora and Breanna both longed for a sense of community and spiritual connection.

Aurora specifically referenced her desire to incorporate more spirituality into her life, noting her experience in a class on Buddhism, which made her seek out a deeper connection to religion.

Breanna on the other hand, acknowledged the role that religion could play in shaping her values and aspirations, stating her wish to start dating men who shared similar beliefs and life goals

“I wanted that. I wanted that to be a lot more part of my life than it is,” Breanna said.

Struggles with plural marriage

As the conversation turned to plural marriage, Robyn and her daughters discussed their varying levels of commitment to the lifestyle. Aurora and Breanna acknowledged the challenges of navigating plural marriage, especially when it came to dating and building relationships.

Robyn pointed out that they were struggling to find churches in their area that would support their beliefs in plural marriage, noting,

“There isn’t a branch of our church near Vegas. There isn’t one here in Flagstaff. And so we haven’t been going to church because of that.”

When asked about their thoughts on plural marriage, the daughters did not express a definitive stance. Aurora, in particular, seemed uncertain. As she shared her feelings, she noted,

“I don’t have the same call to it that you and dad do and did,”

While Breanna did not dismiss the idea entirely, her hesitation revealed a lack of certainty about whether she would want to pursue a plural marriage in her own life.

Family dynamics and personal choices

The conversation also shed light on the family dynamics and how each member’s individual beliefs and choices shaped their approach to plural marriage. Robyn expressed some frustration with her daughter’s reluctance to fully embrace the lifestyle, admitting that it had been difficult for her as well.

However, Robyn emphasized the importance of allowing her children to form their views. In a Sister Wives confessional, she explained,

"I want them to focus on their spiritual journey more than anything at this point. And then that type of thing kind of has a tendency to fall into place. And I think that's a good place to start."

Aurora and Breanna’s experiences reflect a generational shift within the Brown family, where the younger members reevaluated the practices and values that were a central part of their upbringing. They both highlighted that this was influenced not only by their personal beliefs but also by their interactions with the outside world, where plural marriage is not widely accepted.
