The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives covers the lives of the Mormon mom influencers. The Mormon moms got their fame after they blew up on the internet for their #MomTok. With the hashtag, as they said on the show, they were "trying to change the stigma of gender roles in the Mormon culture."
They were back in the limelight after the creator of the #MomTok Taylor Frankie Paul revealed in her Instagram Live that she and her then-husband were involved in soft swinging with the other couples of the group. Other moms in the group confessed their side of the story and the show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives took a brief look into this aspect of their lives.
On September 6, 2024, Decider published an interview with The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives cast members Taylor and Jessi. During the interview, when Taylor was asked if she had any regrets about the way she revealed it publicly and the way the "soft-swinging" news was received, she said:
"I look back at it and it was a very on-the-spot decision and then the whole world — well, not the whole world, but a lot of people watched it, you know? Like millions of people. I didn’t know that it would get to that point. So yeah, it was a lot." Taylor said.
The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives star Taylor opens up about going public with the scandal
In the interview, Taylor was asked if she regretted her decision to go public with the incident or if she felt that it was a "blessing in disguise." Taylor said that it was both for her. While she regretted the decision, she also admitted that the situation turned out to be a "blessing in disguise" for them. Taylor said:
"I would say both. I think blessing in disguise, because it is like the reason we’re here today and where I’m at today in life."
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star further shared that the decision to go public was a "very on-the-spot decision" and the story reached millions of people, which she had not expected. She admitted that didn't know that the matter would get that far and that it was "a lot" for her and her group.
Taylor also said in the interview that if she got the opportunity to do things differently then she would. However, they are in the current position in their lives because of that decision.
"If I could do things differently, I probably would have. But at the same time, it’s where we are today," she added
Taylor and Jessie talk about balancing their current lifestyle with the Mormon lifestyle
In the interview, Taylor and her The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives castmate Jessi Ngatikaura were asked how they balance their current lifestyle with how the church expects them to live their lives.
Taylor said that they were pretty sure of how they wanted to go about things. She does not take pressure from her church and does what she feels is right for her.
"I don’t take that pressure on from my church, you know? I’m just going to do what I feel is right for me. And so I felt like it is a little bit relieving in that sense... I don’t take that or the outside world or my family — it’s kind of more like, at the end of the day you gotta do what’s going to make you happy to be your best self, you know," Taylor said.
Jessi added that she believes that religion is a personal thing. She said that if a person is confident in their relationship with God and who they are as a person then they will naturally "attract people who align with that."
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star further shared that she has a lot of Mormon devotees in her life and they respect each other's opinions because they are both confident in how they feel, and that’s the type of people she wants around.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premiered on September 6, 2024, on Hulu.
