Sura Ali’s journey and creative process in Rhythm + Flow

Before her performance in Rhythm + Flow, Sura shared insights into her personal and creative journey. In a video chat with her mother, she revealed that their relationship had significantly improved compared to a few years ago.

Being the youngest of four siblings, Sura admitted that she often felt neglected and unloved during her early years. Sura later met with her producer, Hendrix Smoke, known for his work with Nicki Minaj, Glorilla, and 2 Chainz. During their discussion, Sura mentioned that she has a background in poetry, and she wanted to infuse her voice with emotions.

"I’m gonna put the pain in my voice, or whatever the case is, but I definitely want some drops," she told him.

For her photoshoot, when asked about her image, she stated:

"The Hood sh**, for real. It gives New York. Like, that’s my look."

According to the judges, DJ Khaled and Latto, her song, R+N+F, reflected her life experiences. She took full creative control of the track, using beat switch-ups to enhance its impact. This decision, along with her storytelling approach, helped define her performance and set it apart.
