Teddi Mellencamp's latest update: A moment of relief
On December 17, 2024, Teddi Mellencamp posted an update on Instagram. In a video, she reported the news of an all-clear in her last skin checkup. Her melanoma fight now has a positive moment after years of battles.
"The anxiety always takes over; the thought of another biopsy, another surgery, another addition to the scar on my back. And I always end up crying. But today the tears were those of joy," she wrote.
She expressed her thanks to the medical professionals, family, friends, and supporters who have stood by her throughout her journey. The caption read in part:
"As long as you’re here, I have a reason to keep advocating for myself and for others."
Mellencamp encouraged her followers to prioritize their health by scheduling skin checks and routine medical appointments. Her message resonated with many, as she reflected on the progress made after years of anxiety, treatments, and surgeries.
"And if you need to get your skin checked but have yet to make an appointment… what are you waiting for?" she wrote.
Teddi Mellencamp's skin cancer journey
Mellencamp's skin cancer diagnosis first went public in March 2022 when the mole on her back was diagnosed with melanoma. Initially pushed to visit a dermatologist by her good friend and fellow The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Kyle Richards, Mellencamp learned the importance of regular skin screenings.
She had avoided checkups due to anxiety early on, but soon realized the potential of early detection to save lives. Her first diagnosis was that the melanoma was "in situ," which meant it had not spread beyond the affected area. Even so, subsequent checkups would uncover more melanomas and require multiple surgeries, biopsies, and immunotherapy treatments over the next two years.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has often shared updates about her scars and treatment setbacks to emphasize the importance of vigilance and preventive care. In December 2023, Mellencamp faced a setback when immunotherapy treatments failed to address the melanomas on her back, requiring further surgery.
She kept her audience abreast of every step of her journey, from wide excision procedures to lymph node biopsies.
As of 2024, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was reportedly getting better. Still, her condition remained unpredictable at times with the emergence of new spots. Even in March 2024, she needed further biopsies and was being treated for melanoma relapse.
