Shark Tank's Mark Cuban sat down with People on December 5, 2024, and revealed his billionaire secrets. He shared his approach to work-life balance, revealing that he does 99% of his work via email, allowing him to be present for his family.
The Shark Tank investor is a self-proclaimed "tech guy," and recognizes the importance of staying up-to-date with new technologies, particularly social media, which plays a significant role in his children's lives. He acknowledged that algorithms influence their interests and strive to understand these dynamics to connect with his kids better.
Mark's rules for life pay attention to the value of continuous learning, especially from his children. He believes that embracing new technologies and staying informed is crucial in today's fast-paced world. By doing so, Mark aims to remain relevant and connected to the next generation.
"I learned so much from my kids. I learned what skibidi is, and the world keeps on changing, and I keep on learning from them because they are exposed to all these new technologies, social media is an integral part of their lives." stated Mark.
Shark Tank's Mark Cuban believes his wife has taught him a lot
Mark Cuban shared another rule that emphasized the importance of independence within a relationship. He attributed the success of his marriage to his wife's open nature, describing her as intelligent, compassionate, and inquisitive. The Shark Tank judge acknowledged that he learned a great deal from her, and values their conversations and shared experiences.
In their family life, Mark revealed that his wife takes the lead in organizing their children's activities, and he just shows up. He jokingly noted that he receives instructions on where to be and when, whether it's attending school events or picking up their kids from late-night outings. Despite their divided responsibilities, Cuban expressed pride in his wife and children for sticking together.
"She's always reading and learning and exposed to new things, and you know, through osmosis and as much conversation as I can, I learned from her a lot," revealed the Shark Tank investor.
Another rule of the Shark Tank investor highlights the persistence of old habits. When he initially got rich, Mark indulged himself in luxury purchases, including a large house and a private plane. However, he mentioned that over time, his spending habits have gone through a significant change.
Mark revealed that he has become increasingly frugal, and he recently had a conversation with his wife about allowing themselves to splurge occasionally. Despite this, he admitted that usually he tries not to spend excessively and his restraint had become a deeply ingrained habit.
Later, Mark Cuban emphasized the importance of flexibility in his work routine. Contrary to what many might expect, Mark revealed that he spends around 8-10 hours a day on his laptop or phone, but not in meetings, phone calls, or offices. Instead, he manages his business entirely through email, a habit he adopted after gaining financial independence.
"I didn't wear a watch for 30 years because I didn't want to be on anybody else's time. And now, finally, because people pretty much kiss my a** when it comes to business, I can tell them I'm doing everything via email, period, end of story," said Mark.
Mark also revealed that he deliberately avoided wearing a watch for 30 years to escape being tied to someone else's schedule. But now, with his financial freedom, he can dictate his own terms and work from anywhere in the world, using his laptop or phone, an arrangement that has proven to be highly effective for Mark.
ABC is currently airing season 16 of Shark Tank, which will be Mark Cuban's last appearance on the reality show.
