After premiering with the first four episodes on November 20, Rhythm + Flow season 2 released episodes 5 to 7 on November 27. After the first installment of episodes introduced the rappers, the judges— Royce Da 5'9, Mr. Porter, and Latto— chose them. The second round of episodes documented them going through various phases of the competition.
Episode 5 of the season surprised both the participants and the viewers. Right before they went in for the battles round, rapper Eminem showed up and revealed that he would be judging their performances.
While the participants were ecstatic to see him, he was put in a bit of a dilemma when contestants Detroit Diamond and Dono faced off against each other, and the judges had to decide to choose one between the two. When Mr. Porter said he didn't know who to go for, Eminem echoed the sentiment.
"I don't know either," Eminem replied.
The episode was left on a cliffhanger as the judges struggled to pick one of the two highly skilled rappers. Episode 6 revealed that it was Detroit Diamond who bagged the win.
Detroit Diamond and Dono’s face-off on Rhythm + Flow season 2 episode 5
Detroit Diamond and Dono were the last contestants to face off against each other on Rhythm + Flow season 2 episode 5. Before entering the battle ring, Detroit Diamond said that she understood that crowd control and presentation mattered as much as lyrics when it came to hip-hop.
"I'm battling Dono. She got to being disrespectful, just running off at the mouth," she added.
Rhythm + Flow flashed back here, showing Dono telling Detroit she would send her home. Detroit said she wasn't going to let Dono disrespect her, especially when she was in her city. Talking about the city, Detroit also added that being from her own city put a lot of pressure on her, but it was the pressure that made diamonds.
When Dono was called to the stage, she said in a Rhythm + Flow confessional that she wasn't worried because she was a natural competitor.
"I slept on floors for this. I done been homeless. I done lost people, friends, relationships, myself. That's why I'm so confident," Dono noted.
Eminem told Detroit that he liked the 8 Mile lines and that it made him sway in her favor. He then told his fellow judges that it was tough. He said that Dono's verse was slightly better, and specified he meant, by a "mili-percent".
Mr. Porter echoed his sentiments, complimenting them both for their use of syllables, and said that the decision was "super tough". Royce Da 5'9 said there was a strong female presence that he loved. Latto interrupted and said she was waiting for that battle.
When Royce said he didn't expect to see the aggressiveness between the two, Eminem said he thought the same. He added that he thought the two didn't like each other but he liked that. When Latto said they didn't smile, Eminem said "yeah they serious."
The host, Smack then announced that one person would get closer to the $250,000 prize money, while the other would be sent home. The judges then gathered in the back to discuss their decisions. They talked about how tough the decision was, as they weighed in on the pros and cons of both the participants.
The episode ended on a cliffhanger, but episode 6 revealed that it was Detroit Diamond who emerged victorious because her long journey to the show was taken into consideration.
New episodes of Rhythm + Flow season 2 will be released on December 4.
