Love is Blind: Germany released episodes 5-8 on Netflix on Friday, January 10, 2025, portraying couples grappling with uncertainties. The experience outside the bubble of the pods pushed several couples to their limits. While some survived, many crumbled under its pressure. One such pair was Shila and Tolga, who broke up in episode 5 after Shila requested that they end their relationship.
Throughout their honeymoon, Tolga complained about feeling suffocated and pressured in the relationship. He claimed Shila's personality was not what he had expected. It also upset him to see how light-hearted the other couples were, while he felt oppressed. Hearing the Love is Blind: Germany star vent his frustration, Shila realized their relationship was beyond saving.
At that point in episode 5, titled Decidedly Undecided, Shila said:
"Honestly, I would like us to stop. I just really want to... leave."
Initially, Tolga was attracted to Shila and chose her over Hannah, confident that she was the woman he wanted to build a future with. However, his feelings started to change once he got to know her more personally. Tolga eventually lost feelings for his fiancée and strived to find his way out of the relationship. Shila's statement gave Tolga an out, and the couple called it quits later in the episode.
"I feel free" — Love is Blind: Germany's Tolga comments on his breakup
Episode 5 of Love is Blind: Germany saw Tolga voice his concerns after returning home from the get-together. Despite knowing that his comments would upset his fiancée, Tolga wanted Shila to hear how he felt being in a relationship with her.
Shila listened silently while Tolga complained about not being able to enjoy the trip. He said the dynamic between them felt "heavy" and "oppressive," when it should feel "carefree and light-hearted." Tolga added that his feelings had changed and he was not as connected to her as he was in the pods or at the reveal.
"But I don't feel anything now. I feel totally empty inside," he added.
When Tolga compared their relationship to the other couples, saying that he could see their spark fade day by day, Shila requested that they break up.
The following morning, the Love is Blind: Germany couple had a private chat before parting ways for good. During the conversation, Tolga reiterated that he lost his feelings for Shila after getting to know her outside the pods. Although it was "incredibly difficult" to process, Tolga could not overlook those emotions.
Shila shared that she had not expected their relationship to crumble so early since their connection felt "genuine" and "right." Tolga agreed, saying their personalities were a "good fit." Despite having compatible personalities, Tolga believed their relationship lacked chemistry. Hearing that, Shila said:
"Well, I do, actually have feelings for you. I do. And I think I always will."
The Love is Blind: Germany cast member was upset that they grew apart so easily. Finally, the pair decided to end their relationship and leave the experiment. When Shila requested they stay friends after the show, Tolga assured her that she would hold a special place in his life.
While speaking to the cameras, Shila got emotional reflecting on the failure of her "love story." She then packed her bags and left. Later, Tolga arrived at the pool party and informed everyone about his breakup with Shila. Although the cast sympathized with him, they praised him for discontinuing a relationship he was not emotionally invested in.
"I feel really reassured that I made the right decision. I feel free and I feel good," Tolga said in a confessional.
