Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban is a billionaire entrepreneur who has built an empire through innovation, strategic thinking, and risk-taking.
In an October 2 episode of the Flagrant podcast, Mark attributed his billion-dollar success to his ability to deeply understand problems and craft innovative solutions to address them.
Besides this, he noted that he is a great salesman, a hard worker, and is not afraid to fail.
"I think other than that, I can sell like a motherf*ker. Um, I work my as* off and I'm not afraid to fail. I mean, it scares me, but I'll, I'll work my as*es off," he said.
Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban explains his "superpower" of identifying a problem and finding a solution
When Mark Shark Tank star Mark Cuban appeared on the Flagrant podcast, he was asked by one of the hosts to share his "superpowers" or "greatest strength" that helped him to go from a "modest" background to achieving a billion-dollar fortune.
"OK here's a question what's your superpower? Why is it you come from modest means, not poor but modest, and then you're a billionaire multiple times over. How? What's do you think your greatest strength is?" one of the hosts asked.
Mark shared that he loved to learn and read a lot. He elaborated that he is constantly reading about business and learning about people and everything important surrounding them. Having all the knowledge about a subject helps him make better decisions.
The Shark Tank investor elaborated on his passion for acquiring business knowledge, embracing the philosophy that "everything is a remix," a concept famously popularized by Steve Jobs. This concept encourages building upon already existing ideas and improving them using acquired knowledge and experiences in new ways.
He elaborated on his approach by explaining that he gathers everything he knows about a problem in front of him and then thinks about what he needs to do next. This mindset allows him to remain forward-thinking and innovative.
"So I love to learn. So when it comes to business I'll read, learn anybody. Like I'll read everything, everything. Steve Jobs said 'Everything is a remix', and I take that to heart. You just said 'Here's where we are. Here's everything I know. What's next?' So it's like the overpass on the roads," he said.
After, gathering all the information he needed about the problem, Mark shared that he works on finding a solution for it.
The Shark Tank investor further used Cost Plus Drugs as an example to explain their process. He noted that the pharmaceutical industry had a major transparency issue and most consumers didn't have any idea about how drug prices were determined.
So to address this transparency issue, he partnered up with Cost Plus Drugs and openly published a price list for the medications offered on them.
"It's like CostPlusDrugs.com. It's an opaque industry. Everybody says you can't fix drug pricing. I'm like, 'What's missing? No transparency'. So I'm going to make all of our prices transparent. I'm going to publish our price list so everybody can see it. And it's been the easiest industry to disrupt I've ever been involved with.," he said.
He concluded that his superpower was to gather everything he knew about a problem, work on finding a solution around it, and just go for it.
"And so my superpower is being able to look at something and say 'Here's what I know, here's what I think we can do, can we do it, yes or no? And then just going for it," he concluded.
Shark Tank season 16 episodes air every Friday on ABC.
