Selling Sunset season 8 was one of the most awaited real estate TV shows in the Netflix reality TV universe. Cast members Chrishell Stause, Mary Fitzgerald, Emma Hernan, Amanza Smith, Chelsea Lazkani, Bre Tiesi, Nicole Young, Jason, and Brett Oppenheim, and newcomer Alanna Gold are featured on this show.

One of the main highlights this season was a girl's trip planned by the new real estate agent, Alanna, who recently joined The Oppenheim Group. In episode 5, Mary Fitzgerald, Amanza Smith, and Nicole Young joined Alanna to visit a small town in San Bernardino County, California called Pioneertown. Additionally, Alanna claimed to "own" a part of the town, after she and her husband made the purchase.

This claim upset the people of Pioneertown who posted on their Instagram account @pioneertowngazette asking Alanna to apologize for the comment. Their post mentioned that the Selling Sunset star has a "small minority non-controlling interest in an entity."

In response to that, Alanna Gold issued an apology to the residents of Pioneertown in an official statement released to People Magazine on September 10, 2024. The apology stated that she got "too excited" and did not "mean any harm." It further continued:

“I certainly do not own Pioneertown, I never should have said that and I apologize for doing so. I want you to know that I did not mean any harm, I absolutely love Pioneertown and I simply got too excited talking about it."

The statement released by the people of Pioneertown revealed that 400 residents lived in the small town which has a rich history and culture. The 640-acre land is owned by "100 private independent parties." The Instagram post clarified that Alanna did not own the entire town but was part of an entity that controls "six of thirty-five parcels in the main street area."

It further stated that Alanna's comment "undermines" the efforts of generations that have lived and contributed to the rich 78-year-old history of art, culture, music, and film. During a September 5, 2024 interview with People, Alanna said she and her husband contributed to "bring(ing) it back to life" to the town through updates. The Selling Sunset agent also mentioned:

"In 2020, when we learned that a large portion of Pioneertown was for sale, we saw an incredible opportunity not only to strengthen our ties to the community but also to preserve a piece of history."

After episode 5 aired, the Selling Sunset star told People she was excited to be a part of the community and had invested in properties there. She wanted to contribute to the town with her real estate knowledge. Alanna apologized for her claim, she said:

“I want to reach out to personally say I am so deeply sorry for the confusion I have caused. We wanted to become part of the community, so we invested in a home and other properties there."

Referring to her initial trips to the town with her husband, the Selling Sunset season 8 cast member added stating she didn't want to "disrespect" the people of Pioneertown. She mentioned:

"Again, I am so sorry to the people of Pioneertown, I would never want to disrespect the town’s history or any of the people who make it such a wonderful place.”

All episodes of Selling Sunset season 8 are exclusively available on Netflix.
