Rhythm + Flow Season 2 premiered episodes 5-7 on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. In Episode 6, the seven aspiring rappers moved to the next stage, where they collaborated with producers to create their debut single, which they would later perform in front of the judges. Like everyone else, Yoshi wanted to make an impact, however, one mistake left her feeling defeated.

At the end of Yoshi's act, the judges mentioned that, at times, her performance was off-beat. They explained that the track's rhythm and the beat Yoshi followed differed, which eventually caused a disconnect. Judge Ludacris asked Yoshi if there was an issue during production, to which the Rhythm + Flow contestant replied:

"No, the record was dope. I think I just got in my head, and I just start getting out of pocket a little bit."

Despite the error, the judges praised her originality and commended her for presenting something different. They appreciated her idea and the message behind the song. However, Yoshi felt disappointed and got emotional after walking backstage. She was convinced the judges would eliminate her and got hysterical thinking about the same.

Rhythm + Flow Season 2 Episode 6: Yoshi performs her single Barely Made It

After a tough round of battles, the contestants prepared to produce their debut singles in Episode 6, Points for Originality. For this challenge, rapper GloRilla joined Ludacris, Latto, and DJ Khaled as the special guest judge. She was excited to listen to the aspiring rappers' verses and their stories.

The participants had to collaborate with renowned producers for their records and also shoot their cover photos. It was a challenge that would reflect their personalities and help the judges understand who they were as artists.

Hence, it was one of the more daunting rounds for the contestants which would decide their fate on the show. When Yoshi visited the set ahead of her performance, she said:

"This is the biggest, most industry-official challenge. So it's crazy."

Yoshi was paired with Grammy-winning producer, Tasha Catour, who had previously worked with singers like Future, Tinashe, and Keke Palmer.

The Rhythm + Flow star explained that she wanted her song to start with a mellow sound and then move to a stronger beat. That way, it would project her "witty and gritty" style. Her record was called Barely Made It, a song that acknowledged the obstacles she overcame to stand where she stood. She wanted the song to celebrate her journey that challenged her and pushed her to the limits.

During production, Yoshi struggled with "brain fog" after recording the first eight bars of the record. The Rhythm + Flow star wanted to maintain the same energy level throughout the song but did not know if her ideas could bring that to fruition. Regardless, she believed her nerves would subside soon enough, allowing her to ace her performance.

Yoshi's act garnered applause from the judges and the live audience. When asked to explain the message behind her single's cover photo, she said the flowers around her head symbolized that one could still "bloom" despite the hardships. It represented her determination as she worked her way through the hurdles.

"All the bullsh*t, you can still bloom. You ain't gotta look like what you been through," Yoshi said.

While commenting on the Rhythm + Flow star's act, GloRilla said she "felt the disconnect" between the track's beat and her live performance. Regardless, she felt it was commendable. Ludacris agreed with GloRilla and asked Yoshi if she faced an issue while producing the track.

Yoshi took accountability for going off-beat, admitting she had no excuse to defend herself. Hearing that, Ludacris mentioned that he was not accusing her of making a mistake. In contrast, he commended her for trying to do something different.

Yoshi felt discouraged when DJ Khaled mentioned that he liked the mellow part of her song more than the upbeat segments. He believed the Rhythm + Flow star lost direction trying to portray multiple skills in one performance. After Yoshi headed backstage, she broke down and was ready to leave the competition.
