The Golden Bachelorette episode 5 was released on October 16 on ABC. Episode 5 was the final week before the hometown visit, and Joan Voss was dealing with the immense pressure of selecting the top four. In the episode, she decided she wouldn't hand out any roses during any date in order to give all the men a better chance to connect with her.
During the recent episode, Joan went on a solo date with Mark, and the two tried to bond over a luxurious yacht trip. They tried to make a connection, however, the flame wasn't there and Mark was sent home after the date.
Reacting to Mark's surprising exit in the episode, host Jesse Palmer shared in his interview with Entertainment Weekly on October 17 that he was shocked by the elimination. However, despite how "wonderful" Mark was, Palmer believed Joan had stronger connections with the other men.
"If you had told me night one that Mark would be sent home before hometowns, I would’ve said you were nuts. As wonderful as Mark is, I believe Joan simply had stronger connections with the other men, " Jesse Palmer reacted.
The Golden Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer reacts to episode 5 events
In his Entertainment Weekly interview, host Jesse Palmer reacted and shared his thoughts on the events that took place in The Golden Bachelorette episode 5.
During week 5, Joan had two solo dates and one group date, marking the final opportunity for the men to impress her before Hometown Week. Understanding the significance of this moment, she made the difficult decision not to hand out any roses on any of the dates, feeling that each rose carried too much weight to be given lightly.
Palmer was asked in the interview to share his thoughts on Joan's decision and how it affected the dynamics of the episode 5 dates. Palmer believed that the decision changed that date dynamic in two ways and answered:
"The men felt more at ease on the dates, but felt the nerves of having to wait until the rose ceremony to find out if they were getting a hometown."
By the end of the episode, she chose her final four and handed out roses to Pascal, Chock, Jordan, and Guy. This left Keith and Jonathan without a rose, joining Mark in The Golden Bachelorette week 5 eliminations.
Jesse Palmer shares his thoughts on the bowling group date conflict
There hasn't been any drama between the Golden Men during the season. However, the contestants were slightly annoyed when their castmate Chock took up most of Joan's time during their bowling date.
Focusing on the incident, Palmer was asked in the interview to differentiate between how "Guy and the other men handled the situation" compared to the young men who appeared on a typical Bachelorette season.
Palmer felt the Golden Men "employ a lot of patience and diplomacy" while handling any conflicting situation. The host added that the tensions were high because of what was at stake. However, he commended the elderly cast members for how they "talk through and handle their differences."
During the bowling group date of The Golden Bachelorette episode 5, the show's production had Pascal wear rented shoes. Playfully reacting to the situation, Palmer remarked that he felt Pascal agreed to wear those rented shoes only because the production might have offered him some luxurious perks, like turn-down service and dry cleaning for a week.
The Golden Bachelorette host further teased Pascal for not owning designer bowling shoes and having to settle for regular rental shoes.
"Production must have promised turn-down service and dry cleaning for a week. Also, how does Pascal not already own a pair of designer bowling shoes??" Palmer remarked.
The Golden Bachelorette airs every Wednesday on ABC.
