The much-awaited finale of The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras will come out on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Eight finalists will head out one last time to compete against one another for a chance at winning the $1,000,000 cash prize and the champion's title. With the Eras' reputation on the line, each contender will try to outperform the other and emerge victorious.

In a sneak peek of The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras finale, posted on the show's official Instagram handle on December 31, 2024, T.J. Lavin, the show's host, announced that in addition to championing the obstacle courses, designed to test their limits, the contestants must face the results of the Karma Vote, which the eliminated players had cast, rating them from best to worst.

Whoever ranked last would earn a "severe disadvantage." Meanwhile, the player with the most positive reviews from the evictees would inch closer to victory. Upon hearing the twist, the finalists began contemplating their relationships with each evictee.

While casting her Karma vote for Johnny Bananas, Cara Maria, deemed his biggest rival, asked:

"Is there... Is there negative numbers here?"

The Challenge 40 cast member locked horns with Johnny during the initial stages of the competitive series. Johnny threw Cara Maria into the first elimination of the season and continued to challenge her every step of the way. The preview clip also featured the thoughts of the other players who cast their Karma Vote.

"I don't think she's nice to anyone" — The Challenge star Katie comments on Jenny's gameplay

In the snippet of the finale, T.J. Lavin revealed that the eliminated contestants had ranked all eight finalists from 1 through 5, one being the "worst" and five the "best." It then showcased The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras evictees speaking about each finalist while ranking them. Although the ranks were not disclosed, the eliminated participants did not hesitate to name the players they favored.

While Jordan was up for discussion, Era I representative, CT stated that he grew on him this season. While Era III contestant Nia thought he was her "brother," Jodi expressed mixed reviews for the finalist.

"You are hysterical but can also be kind of an a**," she said.

Era I's Derrick stated that his relationship with Jordan was difficult, whereas Kaycee claimed he was "too good." In contrast, The Challenge 40 star Tina confessed she would give Rachel the highest score.

However, not everyone was a fan of Rachel's gameplay. Jonna blamed the female finalist for her elimination, while Devin said "Eat my a**, Rachel" as he cast his vote. At the same time, Mark said he would be content as long as an Era I player won.

Era II representative Emily wished to support Derek and claimed he was an "underrated" player. Similarly, Darrell spoke highly of Derek, praising him for never betraying him or making false promises. However, Derek was not the sole contestant who received praise from past participants. While speaking of Jenny, Aviv applauded her for earning her spot in the finale.

In contrast, Katie said:

"I don't think she's nice to anyone."

Similarly, Cory disapproved of Jenny's calculated gameplay, refusing to "look out for her."

While speaking of Tori, Nehemiah claimed she deserved to be a "multiple-time champion." However, The Challenge Era III contestant Amanda expressed a contrasting sentiment. She immediately gave her a 1 and said that she disliked her.

Nurys, on the other hand, called Kyland her brother and admitted that she loved him. Horacio was equally complimentary when he said he wanted to give Kyland a six. Meanwhile, Brandon, believed Michele did not need another victory since she had already won a season of Survivor and gave her a two. Similarly, Josh looked down on Michele's strategy, criticizing her for demeaning his gameplay.

While rating Johnny Bananas, Aneesa mentioned that she expected more of his support in the game. Era III player, Leroy explained that he did not want someone like Johnny, a seven-time champion, to win another season.

During a confessional, Johnny, who worried about his Karma Vote ranking, expressed that the finale would be a "tough uphill battle."

The Challenge 40 season finale will air on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 8 pm ET only on MTV.
