In season 10 episode 4 of Southern Charm, aired on January 2, 2025, Madison LeCroy addressed the growing concerns regarding Craig Conover's evolving personality and his changing role within the group. During a conversation about Craig's transformation, Madison made a direct statement, saying:

“He isn’t proving himself. It’s not like he’s doing anything bad.

LeCroy shared her perspective on the Southern Charm star's shift in behavior—while some of his co-stars viewed his changes as a distancing from the group. She emphasized that his actions shouldn't be interpreted as negative.

Southern Charm star Craig's changing behavior and his co-stars' perspectives on it

Craig Conover's transformation throughout Southern Charm has been a notable topic of discussion among the cast. Once known for his carefree, fun-loving attitude, he has recently shifted his focus toward his businesses, particularly his brand, Sewing Down South, and his relationship with Paige DeSorbo.

His prioritization of career and personal growth has led to him being less involved in group activities, causing some of his co-stars to question whether his change in behavior means he is distancing himself from the group.

During a conversation with his friends, Shep Rose expressed disappointment in the absence of the "goofball" Craig they once knew. He mentioned:

“What happened to the goofball, the funny, sort of self-deprecating Craig? Like that guy’s gone?”

Shep underscored that Craig's new, more professional persona seems to have taken over, leaving behind the playful side that made him relatable to the group. Madison LeCroy, however, offered a different perspective. She highlighted that his current behavior shouldn't be seen as a sign of him abandoning who he is.

In her view, the Southern Charm star's changing behavior indicated that his current personality shift might have stemmed from an inability to fully express himself in his current environment.

"Well, maybe he just can't be himself or who he is right now around y'all," she said.

Is Craig too focused on his image?: Austen Kroll's and fellow co-stars' perspective

As Craig's behavior has changed, his Southern Charm co-stars, particularly Austen, Shep, and Whitney, have expressed frustration. They believe that Craig has become more focused on his career and image rather than maintaining the fun and spontaneous nature that initially drew people to him.

Austen pointed out that he no longer calls Craig when he wants to make plans, as he is often too busy with work. He acknowledged that Craig's priorities have shifted but pointed out that it's not just about business—Craig has also stopped participating in the spontaneous activities that used to define their bond.

“When I want someone to go to lunch with, I don’t call Craig anymore because he always says no,” Austen said.

Shep also commented that if Craig wants to be invited to more events, he should make more of an effort to spend time with the group rather than always focusing on work.

“If Craig thinks it’s a big deal, then he should make more of an effort,” Shep emphasized.

He also raised his concern that Craig's focus on marketing might be damaging his authenticity and that his current personality might be too polished, making him less relatable. Shep added in a Southern Charm confessional:

“I think the reason people liked sewing down south, like Craig, is his old fallible self. Why is he so good at things that are so embarrassing?”

Whitney also noted that Craig's shift from the laid-back, fun-loving guy to someone who is more image-conscious and business-focused is hard to ignore. He stated:

"I think you're trying to insulate yourself or curate this kind of new image. It just thinks it's better for business?"
