Fans of reality TV were delighted when ABC announced the arrival of The Golden Bachelorette following the success of The Golden Bachelor. The show premiered on September 18, 2024, featuring 61-year-old Joan Vassos as the famed bachelorette, trying to mingle with other bachelors to seek the love of her life. Joan was also a part of the show's predecessor.
In episode 6 of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan narrowed down her choices to the final three bachelors who would accompany her to the finale, where she would make the final decision. The bachelors hoping to be picked are Chock, Guy, and Pascal.
After the airing of episode 4, Guy revealed in an Instagram post on October 10, 2024, that his ex-wife had filed a restraining order against him in 2021. Joan recently appeared in an October 23 episode of The Viall Files podcast, where she addressed the issue and revealed that the information did not surprise her as everybody has a past.
“The Golden franchise is a little bit unique because we come here with a lot of past. We’ve lived a lot of life and it doesn’t completely surprise me that there are things that they’re maybe not proud of later on,” Joan stated.
The Golden Bachelorette star Guy explains events that led to restraining order
Reports about Guy's restraining order have garnered significant media attention, with many publications covering the story extensively. As mentioned earlier, Guy elaborated on the issue in an Instagram post on October 10, 2024.
Describing the incident, The Golden Bachelorette finalist accepted that being in the public eye comes with responsibility and claimed that the "stressful" situation was ultimately resolved when her spouse requested to dismiss the protective order.
“My ex-wife and I recently asked the court to seal her application for the protective order as we had hoped to maintain privacy for our family,” Guy stated.
Guy was married to his ex-wife for 34 years and raised four children together, which he claimed to be his greatest accomplishment. The Golden Bachelorette contestant will appear in the finale, where Joan will decide whether he is the person she has been looking for all her life.
Due to the unfortunate instance with his ex-wife, Guy claimed to have done a deep personal evaluation and built up a desire to work to improve himself. He even appreciated the support of The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor Nation during this difficult time of life.
According to an article by People on October 10, 2024, Guy's ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, filed for a temporary restraining order for “45 days only” on October 12, 2021. In her request, Heidi specified that Gansert should strictly contact her through email only when it came to parenting matters.
In the motion, Hedi claimed that starting in July of 2021, she received text messages through which Guy tried to "reconcile," then flipped to anger, and later “physically tried to threaten” her. On the day Hedi filed for the order, she alleged that Gansert ran into her and her sister at the gym and placed something under her tire.
She alleged that he then "motioned like he was going to shoot me with his hand shaped like a pistol." Heidi also claimed in her court documents that Guy was “unstable” and told his sister he “took 10 pills” of unspecified content.
By November 3, 2021, a judge granted Heidi's request to dismiss the application for a protective order. In an interview with People, she mentioned that she adored her family, including her children and a new grandson, and took back the restraining order to protect the family’s privacy.
