The Golden Bachelorette, a spin-off of the well-known reality show Bachelorette, debuted on September 18, where a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator embarked on a quest to find love. Numerous men in their 50s and 60s participate in this reality show to determine if the titular The Golden Bachelorette is the one for them.
In the fifth episode, which aired on October 16, Joan Vassos was under pressure as she wanted to finalize her top 4 before her hometown visit. She chose not to give out any roses on the dates to allow all the men a better opportunity to connect with her
She went on a date with one of the men, Mark Anderson in the episode, and he thought it went well, but unfortunately, he was eliminated. In a Podcast titled Bachelor Happy Hour, released on October 11, he discussed the possibility of sparks between himself and Joan.
"And every time speaking with her, it was just her and I. You never thought about anybody else because she made me the most important person there. It was great," he said.
The Golden Bachelorette’s Mark Anderson on Bachelor Happy Hour
During week 5, Joan and Mark went on a solo date. Mark thought that the date went well; however, he was the one who got sent back home that night. During his various media rounds, he gave an interview to Bachelor Happy Hour podcasts.
Podcast host Joe Amabile asked Mark significant questions about whether there was a spark between Joan and Mark.
“Anytime I talked with Joan, there was a spark because she’s just that kind of person. She’s wonderful, just a beautiful woman inside and out. She’s just fantastic. She would talk to you, and at first going in, I didn’t know if I was the first person, last person, but when I got up there, it was like it was just her and I. And every time speaking with her, it was just her and I," he said.
In the same podcast, Mark also talked about his experience of sharing a first kiss with Joan. Mark said that he felt like he was 13 or 14 during the kiss. Mark mentioned that after a while, one forgets the cameras are there.
He also mentioned that he and Joan had fun, and he tried to keep it light. When he kissed her, it felt natural. Joan made it easy to forget the cameras. Joan liked the kiss and wished he had asked for it sooner as per what he said. However, things went astray for them. In the end, he wasn’t the one for Joan and had to leave the show.
The Golden Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer reacts to Mark’s elimination
Jesse was shocked by Mark’s eviction from The Golden Bachelorette as he regarded him as ‘wonderful’. He stated that Mark was eliminated because Joan had stronger connections with other men. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly on October 17 he said,
"If you had told me night one that Mark would be sent home before hometowns, I would’ve said you were nuts. As wonderful as Mark is, I believe Joan simply had stronger connections with the other men."
The Golden Bachelorette airs on ABC every Wednesday.
