“It was intense”— Aiden opens up about meeting Courtney’s parents during The Ultimatum: South Africa reunion special

On Friday, May 24, 2024, Netflix's social experiment, The Ultimatum: South Africa, aired its final episode. During this episode, the cast returned to the stage to discuss their on-screen journeys and let the world know what they had been up to since.

Aiden and Courtney was one of two couples whose families appeared in one of the episodes during which Aiden took the traditional route by asking for Courtney's parents' blessings before proposing to her during the season finale. In the reunion special, Salamina asked Aiden about the interaction, and the cast member said:

"It was intense. Yeah, very intense. They took a while to give me an answer. They didn't really give me a straight answer either."

Aiden recalled Courtney's father extending his hand, suggesting he was on board with the two of them getting married. Salamina then asked Courtney how she felt at that moment, and she said she "just felt this huge sense of relief."

The Ultimatum: South Africa host gives Aiden a new name, 'Charmer Boy'

While speaking to the couple about their relationship, Salamina asked Aiden whether he got a full-time job, per Courtney's father's conditions. The Ultimatum: South Africa star revealed that he did. The host then asked the couple about Aiden's proposal.

"Let's talk about that beautiful proposal. Aiden you stepped it up. I decided in that moment that I'm going to give you a new name. So from now on I refer to you as 'Aiden, Charmer Boy,'" Salamina said.

The host told Courtney that she shocked people when she "whipped" out a ring of her own during the proposal and asked whether it was an "insurance policy" in case The Ultimatum: South Africa cast member didn't propose.

Courtney revealed that she thought that if Aiden wasn't going to marry her, she would marry him. Salamina further asked her how things were between them, and she revealed that they were "still engaged."

"At this present moment, I'm enjoying the fact that he decided that he was going to choose me, and choose me for the rest of his life," Courtney said.

Aiden added that they both wanted to be more settled before making such an "expensive decision." Salamina told them that she and Howza looked forward to receiving an invitation to Aiden and Courtney's wedding whenever they were ready and told The Ultimatum: South Africa couple she was proud of them.

Aiden's proposal to Courtney explored

During The Ultimatum: South Africa episode 9, Aiden proposed to Courtney, who said yes. Ahead of the proposal, Courtney told the cameras that she issued The Ultimatum because she felt it was time for them to take the next step in their relationship. She added that their trial marriage was "amazing," and she was confident about their relationship.

She said that although their relationship took a toll during The Ultimatum: South Africa, she believed they came out "a lot stronger."

Aiden explained that he learned a lot about himself during the Netflix show. He added that he was able to focus on himself and his relationship and learned that his partner had done the same. He said that he was as proud of Courtney as he was of himself.

At the proposal location, Aiden told her that one of the first things he admired about her when they met was how much fun they could have together.

"And just how easy it was for me to be myself with you. One of the most important things to me that I've realized, I've become a better person...every day when I'm with you. You allow me the space to grow, and you grow with me at the same time. And I think that's really special. You're the most beautiful woman I've ever laid my eyes upon. I think you're the most interesting person I've ever met," he said.

Mentioning that Courtney had become the most important person to him, Aiden said he wanted to "continue making beautiful memories" together and asked her if she would marry him.

Courtney said yes, and the two kissed each other. However, before the segment ended, she told Aiden she had something for him.

"I know that marriage scares you. So this is a symbol of all the promises that I want to make to you, for the rest of my life. Um, I want to promise you that I will love you no matter what. I'll support you through everything. I just want to be the best person I can be for you, so this is...that," she said.

Courtney pulled out an engagement ring of her own and put it on Aiden's finger.
