Sister Wives season 19 episode 19, titled Behold I Come Like a Thief, premiered on TLC on January 26, 2025. In the episode, Janelle opened up about her duty as the bookkeeper for the Brown family and commented on the family fund usage.

Janelle shared that when they first started implementing a joint fund for the entire family they were very careful with the usage and were keeping tabs on every transaction. However, during their last few years as a family, things got hard and the fund was creating problems among the Brown family members.

“We set our family up that way. But, like, toward the end, it was just really hard,” Janelle said.

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown claims that Kody was taking money from the funds without any reason

In Sister Wives season 19 episode 19, Janelle sat down with Christine to discuss the Brown family's financial struggles during their last few years. She shared that she never felt like she had much control over her own money because every member of the Brown family was pulling from the same account.

While the Sister Wives star acknowledged that having a family fund for their large family was a great idea, she felt that money eventually became a source of tension among the members.

She admitted that they had set themselves up for those challenges, and during the last few years before the family broke up, financial struggles became even harder to navigate.

Janelle further noted that when they all started the family fund, they were careful with it and kept tabs on how they spent it. However, during the last few years, she claimed that Kody would take money from the fund without any reason and spend a lot of it.

“When we all first started, there was kind of like this thing [where] we weighed in on what bills should be paid, how we were going to pay, who got priority. And then the last several years, Kody would just take out funds and I don’t know what for. And the money was just being spent — and lots of it," she said.

In his confessional, Kody later denied Janelle's claims, emphasizing that, as a father to 18 children and a husband to three additional wives besides Janelle, he required a significant amount of money to support the family.

He implied that he didn’t disclose these expenses to Janelle because, in his view, it wasn’t her “business.”

“I was a father to 18 and a husband to more than just Janelle. So we had a lot of places that money needed to go that weren’t always Janelle’s business,” he said.

The Sister Wives star further explained that since Janelle was doing the bookkeeping for the family she just saw the transactions that were made and didn't focus on the reasoning behind them.

He added that Janelle's role also involved ensuring that she took care of and paid all of the family bills.

Meanwhile, Janelle responded in her confessional that she didn’t have as much access to the family funds that Kody claimed she had. She added that Kody liked to show that she had all the power over the family with the funds.

However, she said that she was just responsible for recording the transactions and sending them to the CPA.

“He loves this mantra that somehow I was [the] all powerful one with all the financial control. I really was just the person who recorded the transactions and sent them to the CPA,” she said.
