Love Is Blind Mexico released its final two episodes on August 15, 2024, bringing the first Mexican iteration of the beloved dating reality series to an end. The show continues to draw attention for its unique concept as 30 individuals are brought together to find love and say the magical words "I do" at the altar.
As Rene formed a deep connection with Irais on the show, he eventually took her to meet his parents and ask for their approval. The couple had their ups and downs as they briefly parted ways, but eventually decided to get married within 30 days as per the experiment.
Rene's family had issues grasping the concept of Love Is Blind Mexico and were not shy in expressing discomfort with the idea. His sisters, mother, and father confronted Irais and questioned her intent with Rene.
His family's stance didn't dwindle Rene's desire to marry Irais. In episode 9 of Love Is Blind Mexico, the couple went on a romantic date to clear the air regarding their wedding date. Rene explained that although he was grateful to be taking this big step with Irais, his family didn't see it that way, and his father decided to skip their wedding.
In a confessional interview, he expressed his disappointment with the situation as he tried to bring his family on board the experiment and failed to do so.
"It really hurts that my dad probably isn't coming. I think it's because I didn't tell him about any of this until the day I introduced him to Irais. It's gonna be hard because I would have liked him to be there," Rene said.
Rene and Irais's history on Love Is Blind Mexico explored
Since the start of the show, Irais has established meaningful connections with Rene and Fernando. She initially leaned towards Fernando and even proposed to him, which he didn't reciprocate. After multiple attempts to get him back, Fernando suggested to Irais that she should be with Rene and vouched for him.
Fernando ended up with Karen in Love Is Blind Mexico and flew with her to the honeymoon phase of the experiment, but Irais had doubts about whether she wanted to continue with Rene. Rene showed eagerness to be with Irais even though she refused to travel with him to the honeymoon phase.
The couple later reunited tearfully, and Irais explained her side of the story, stating that she needed time to move on from the past events and clear her head. Rene took her back gleefully and went to introduce her to his parents. To Irais's surprise, she learned that none of Rene's family members except his mother knew about the experiment.
Rene's family was apprehensive about the whole idea and cast doubts regarding their relationship.
"If I'm honest, I don't believe it. I doubt that what they feel is love, because, well, I mean they seem to think it's easy. I think they'd need more time," stated Rene's mother.
They even clashed with Irais over the topic of his alcohol usage and defended Rene, which didn't sit well with Irais. They eventually changed the topic and explained how tough it was for the couple in the pods of Love Is Blind Mexico, but they persevered due to their love for each other.
Rene's dad confessed in a one-on-one interview after their meeting that it was hard for him to believe the couple as the time they spent together was short.
"If I'm honest, I don't believe it. I doubt that what they feel is love because they seem to think it's easy. And judging from what they've told me and from the experiment they're doing, it seems difficult."
These doubts seemed to linger within Rene's mind in the finale as he called off the wedding.
The first season of Love Is Blind Mexico can be streamed entirely on Netflix. The reunion episode will air on August 18, 2024.
